I'm not really a downloader, & tend only to buy music on CD now.

It's always useful for me to get to hear something before committing to a purchase, so I'm quite pleased that this website is around. You can't download from it, but you can listen to a large selection of music in its' entirety, legally, & free of charge.

Might be of interest to some members.

Google it !!

I used to use Spotify, but I don't use it so much anymore. I mostly buy music from the iTunes store and put them on my Mp3-player. Spotify is great, although some really popular artists are missing, such as The Beatles, AC/DC and Led Zeppelin. All in all however, you can listen to a lot of different artists and songs.

I suggest anybody who likes music tries it, keep in mind however that it costs about 9€(?), unless you want to wait a few months or get an invite, and is only available in a few countries.

I shall take a look

It's free in the UK, is it subscription only elsewhere ??

I'm not sure. I live Sweden and here you can either choose to pay a monthly fee or get a free version with ads. I personally got an invite from a friend who uses it, but before that I left my e-mail adress at their website to get a notification when I could sign up for a free account. Since I got the invite, I didn't have to wait but I can imagine it takes quite a while for people who can't get one. If you do pay however, you won't have to wait.

What I meant in my latest post was that if you really want to try the service, you'll probably have to pay for a month unless you want to have to wait or you already have an invite. It is not subscription only. As I mentioned, this is how it works in Sweden, it might be different in different countries. I hope that clears things up. =)

Thought I would revive this old thread since the world has really changed since it was posted. I have become fascinated with the many services that have been created in the last 2 or so years. Spotify being only only of them. The ability to just try and learn about more music then ever for a relatively small fee. If you have the unlimited broadband access you owe it to yourself to look into these services.
In the last month I have tried Spotify, Rdio, Mog and Rhapsody. These services allow downloads to your mobile devices for offline listening on Android & IOS. I'm not sure which are US only though.

As I've posted elsewhere on MD, I've now migrated to We7, which is a UK & Ireland service. This is completely free, with unlimited streaming.

Royalties are paid to artists from brief audio adverts which run periodically.

Very good indeed.

I'm trying to get an invite out of someone right now!

I got on by Googling the website and then I had to invite some Facebook friends to join as well, which I didn't mind doing and now I have it. It was easy but maybe only so easy with a Facebook account? I have no idea.
