The Trouble with Orchestra festivals.... - theuprightbass - 17-02-2015 Being in eighth grade, and eligible for the PMEA District orchestra festival for 7th and eighth graders, this is my second year participating. Last year's music was a fun challenge. It was very delightful. I was very excited to participate again, but to my surprise: this year's guest conductor chose music that is so easy that an elementary school could play it. And since I'm an upright bass player, I know some hard parts are hard to come by in these festivals because all of the otehr parts are difficult usually and just leaving the oompa loompas (that's what I call easy rhythms on that only have two steady notes for many measures straight) for the bass players, but that's not the case. I looked at all the parts and they are so easy that it makes me cringe. Where did the challenge go in these orchestra festivals? |
