Where are they now...a continuing series - jazzboCR - 06-01-2015 Since the inevitable spit-ups and split-ups, what's happened to various band members? Let''s start with the J Geils Band--J Geils, Magic Dick, Peter Wolf, Seth Justman and and the mystery man and only true Bostonian, Stephen Jo Bladd. J Geils the Mahoff, the center, the organizer, the producer-in-fact. His inspired bio: http://www.allmusic.com/artist/j-geils-mn0000732317/biography The 1 album he's given credit for: http://www.allmusic.com/album/bluestime-mw0000122074 << should rate rate much higher (and does with me)--4/13 picks to click . some tunes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hkwn2OTy83Q << w/Magic Dick, his Bluestime partner and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=07KsZjS-0OU << a different concept, more recently and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ieJsugSwOI and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CTXuLqPrSXY << funny that this YT I.D. ends with SXY 'cuz it sure is SeXY. Mr. Geils spent his interim periods and all his free time restoring and racing vintage sports/racing cars. Magic Dick Acording to some with knowledge, one of the best White harpists ever. Kept very busy as a a sideman during and fter the J Geils Band era. His AMG bio--good if disjointed: http://www.allmusic.com/artist/magic-dick-mn0000228427 He flip-flopped as headliner of Bluestime w/ J Geils--here's AMG on their second CD: http://www.allmusic.com/album/little-car-blues-mw0000189801 His Site: http://www.magicdick.com/ Some songs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a0q2Vy3fx2I << he loves playing this tune...and we love him for it and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yxAZ3YyjtPg << HIPSTER ALERT--I can pretty much guarantee you've never seen anything like this take on a James Brown classic and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JkRWh0elAOg << Love the intro ("First I Look at the Purse", done famously raucously by the J Geils Band) Peter Wolf Lead vocalist and has had a vibrant, productive career since: http://www.allmusic.com/artist/peter-wolf-mn0000682958/discography His Site: http://www.peterwolf.com/ Interesting man: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Wolf Tunes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1slsQ_rXpzQ << Hasn't turned his back on the classics--just enhanced w/ narrative and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iu2hCOROwZM and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oO-59By1_Rg and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkC0C4CgJwc << Back-stage rehehearsal w/Shelby Lynne (they do a terrif duet on this). Charming. Transfixing. BONUS: His solo debut album (in 1984) complete: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3W7V_DVC8lw Stephen Jo Bladd the drummer has apparently dropped out of music, allegedly with back and/or arthritis problems. Unknown as to what he's done since. Seth Justman Keyboard player/producer/songwriter (he and Peter Wolf co-wrote most of the JGB's material and he wrote all of the Love Stinks album). Seemingly hasn't done much since '86 (produced and partly co-wrote a Debby Harry album). Where are they now...a continuing series - Big Ears - 14-01-2015 My favourite Geils album is Monkey Island and I wish they had made another album like this, in that it combined progressive rock, jazz-rock, heavy funk and traditional jazz. This is their best ever track imo: Where are they now...a continuing series - CRAZY-HORSE - 15-01-2015 only hits they ever had here were "centrefold" and "freezeframe", "angel in blue" wasnt a hit here but did get a lot of airplay at the time... i have the "freezeframe" album on vinyl from back in the day...and "angel in blue" is my favourite track off it from memory... i cant recall anything else by them that ive heard... i remember hearing a couple of songs from Peter Wolf when he released a solo album, they failed to really grab me though Where are they now...a continuing series - jazzboCR - 15-01-2015 Talk about saving your best 'til last! Monkey Island sure does that. Don't remember having heard it before but I like it so much, here's 2 live cuts from it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b34Q7jsG3X8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDAtcnXRI4A I was gonna order it but for the hair-raising price ($20 + S/H)...and that's used--somebody's got a new copy for $85... Where are they now...a continuing series - CRAZY-HORSE - 15-01-2015 those prices would have to be vinyl, right? Where are they now...a continuing series - jazzboCR - 15-01-2015 CRAZY-HORSE Wrote:those prices would have to be vinyl, right? No sir--those are CD prices. Vinyl is available from $7 total. My reasoning: Nearly everything had gone digital in '77--the vinyl was produced as an afterthought. The CDs didn't sell and so were either deeply discounted (and thus disappeared into collections from which they haven't emerged) or recycled. Big current demand (as it's worth is coming to the fore) and little supply. The vinyl from that era got dumped when the purchasers either relocated/downsized or died, and the unsold excess got unceremoniously squirreled away in some anonymous warehouse in Utah. That's what makes cruising thrift stores with knowledge so much fun--I don't do it but know a couple of dudes who make a decent living at it. Where are they now...a continuing series - Big Ears - 15-01-2015 The CD may be out of print. Where are they now...a continuing series - SteveO - 15-01-2015 J Geils!!!
