"Little" Jimmy Dickens has died - jazzboCR - 03-01-2015

Had a good long run in life (expired at 94) and in music. Small in stature (4' 11") but big in voice, he was a staple at the Grand Old Opry into his 90's, though the hits ceased about 1965. Known for the novelty tunes but he could also deliver a weeper too. Here's a NYTimes obit: http://www.nytimes.com/2015/01/03/nyregion/jimmy-dickens-94-an-outsize-country-singer.html and some tunes:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZfYFx6MOTYU << His last hit--what a hoot!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jdYr4A9LtTE << That rough, husky quality to his later voice makes this ballad all the more effective

"Little" Jimmy Dickens has died - James Otto Sweet Heart - 04-01-2015

This is my most favorite shot of him because my most favorite singer James Otto is with him.

True dat. But if they stand on a box of their hits, they're about 9'9". Meanwhile I stay at 5'7" or so--how about you?

if Dickens stood on ALL his hits he'd be about 5'2" as he only had about 20 singles that made the US country chart(releasing singles and making the charts with them are two different things...)

Prince,on the other hand had approxiamately 60 charting singles in the US....three times as many as Dickens, so he'd probable stand around 7'4" if he stoodon his 'hits'
