What is your view of buying music products online? - MichB - 17-12-2014

I'm doing a business model for a class and if you could answer some of the following questions and tell me your view, it would be great. Thanks!

[*]What do you wish was offered by online music stores? Is there any problems or frustrations that you have with buying online? Do you have any solutions that you wish you could make happen?

[*]Do you personally use online sale and shipment of musical products?

[*]As far as ease of use, would conveniently placed audio samples of the (playable) musical product benefit you or do you prefer looking up YouTube previews? Or do you simply not buy a product you have not played for yourself?

Do you have interest in a media page of the product (with reviews, video previews, detailed specs, audio demos and customer reviews) that makes all your intended research easy?

[*]Do you have interest in pre-done upgrades to used instruments (With warranty already voided) before shipment? (Say you want to buy a guitar but plan on replacing pickups) would it be beneficial to you to select an add-on at checkout, and select the pick-up type, placement and wiring set up?

Attached are some pictures that may help you get a visual perspective of some of the question

I am only going to comment on the used instruments section. New models of synthesizers etc. are becoming obsolete at an alarming rate. New synths that were released only a few years ago are already out of production. I did mange to but a second hand Korg Radias from a guy in Japan recently and I have to say I am very happy with the product. At the end of the day I have paid about half the price of what it cost when it was released. To me that's a bargain.

Hold on to these vintage, allegedly obsolete synthesizers--some are making a comeback: http://www.times-standard.com/arts-and-entertainment/20150201/missing-the-moog-70s-synthesizers-make-comeback << This article doesn't mention the various Farfisas but I've recently heard some nuevo-retro stuff using them and prices for the bigger ones reach $2500 (see eBay for details). Tough to reproduce that cheesy sound any other way though I don't doubt some synth maker is building it into a current model or two. As we've seen time and again, everything old is new again.

What do you wish was offered by online music stores? I wish a person could buy a flac. file of a single song instead of having to buy the entire album.

Is there any problems or frustrations that you have with buying online? What kinda bothers me is, it seems like you have to have a different audio player for every single site you order music from. Why can't I just download the song (in the form I want) and play it how, when, where I want to (within reason of course)

Do you have any solutions that you wish you could make happen?

If there was a site that allowed a person to choose the file type they would like to download and then, make the download process simple and streamlined without the need for yet another audio player. (A la all those file sharing sites of the late 1990s early 2000s).

Do you personally use online sale and shipment of musical products? I think, as far as instruments and gear are concerned, I would be more likely to buy from a brick and mortar store so that I can make sure damage doesn't happen during shipping. But that also depends on the piece, I don't think I'd buy a drum set online, but a controller or monitors I would.

As far as ease of use, would conveniently placed audio samples of the (playable) musical product benefit you or do you prefer looking up YouTube previews? Or do you simply not buy a product you have not played for yourself?
I love samples, especially if I've just stumbled upon an artist with previous work, it's usually easier, and gives you a pretty good idea (and then if I need more info, THEN I look it up on youtube or something.)

Do you have interest in a media page of the product (with reviews, video previews, detailed specs, audio demos and customer reviews) that makes all your intended research easy? Absolutely, I also enjoy a well put together "Similar Artists" page.

Do you have interest in pre-done upgrades to used instruments (With warranty already voided) before shipment? (Say you want to buy a guitar but plan on replacing pickups) would it be beneficial to you to select an add-on at checkout, and select the pick-up type, placement and wiring set up? I think that would pry be a good idea!
