THE NEW BASEMENT TAPES "lost on the river"

bought this one a couple of weeks ago when it was released but only just got round
to hearing it and posting it...
good psuedo-folkie stuff here, love all the vocals and instrumentation
gets an initial score of 1.8 from me, not sure if this will grow to be an album i
love in the future, but it is still pretty good IMO.
so from the album i will link below a track from all the featured vocalists.

Amazon.com product review below:

Lost On The River: The New Basement Tapes is a music event 47 years in the making. It's an historic album project from five of music's finest artists -- Elvis Costello, Rhiannon Giddens (Carolina Chocolate Drops), Taylor Goldsmith (Dawes), Jim James (My Morning Jacket) and Marcus Mumford (Mumford & Sons) -- in unique collaboration with a 26-year-old Bob Dylan. Produced by project creator T Bone Burnett, the album was recorded in March, 2014 at Capitol Studios in Hollywood, where the artists and Burnett convened for two weeks to write and create music for a treasure trove of long-lost lyrics handwritten by Bob Dylan in 1967 during the period that generated the recording of the legendary Basement Tapes. The collective completed and recorded dozens of songs, 15 of which appear on this standard edition.

THE NEW BASEMENT TAPES "lost on the river" - R_burke - 25-11-2014

I got the version with 20 songs, there is a shorter version as well (not sure why). I like it although some of the lyrics don't sound like Dylan type lyrics, which might be why he never recorded the songs. It helps that i like all of the performers and have many of their individual releases. I too am not sure if this will be an all time favorite, but a good release none the less.

i got the 20 track also...i didnt know that there were two versions of the album???

i agree on the lyrics comment also...most of it doesnt read like Dylan lyrics so i can only asume they originally written as by Dylan as poems rather than songs also.

Taken from the Pitchfork review:

"So the New Basement Tapes hedged their bets, each writing music for the old lyrics on their own, which is why the 20 tracks here (on the "deluxe" edition, released at the same time as an impoverished 15-track version) include a few lyrics that show up twice in radically different settings"

My local independent record store (Salzers in Ventura) had both versions.
