I came across these 2 versions of the same song. One is by one of the more successful, acclaimed sopranos of our era and New Zealand's gift to the world, Dame Kiri Te Kanawa. Honestly many versions of the same song is not a rare phenomenon.
With "tainted love" as text search in the Melodycatcher http://www.melodycatcher.com/ I found over 20 versions of that song, apart from their relevancy.
I am convinced that many famous songs even have more versions....

The answer is yes: there are sites for lyrics but no: I have never found one equally well-done lyrics search engine. On-line lyric search is rather spread.
A sample of a general lyrics search engine is LyricsWorld http://www.lyricsworld.com/
There are many more, but usually the more complete ones are limited to specified music, like English, Irish, Scottish folk etc. To find them you can Google with "lyrics" in combination with the wanted (folk) music.
Some collections have lyrics for each song. A good international example is ingeb.org http://ingeb.org/home.html 20.000 tunes with lyrics
