Great links JR - watched all of them - thx - prog rock was my thing growing up - it was total escape from the daily grind and the constant brain-washing that was the SA education system in my youth. Prog was the 'rinse' cycle......

Glad to be of service to a solid Bro and solid contributor. I can't even imagine what it was like growing up in the rigid-in-every-way system like the UofSA was then.

That's why I walked out of school early - just could not stand the BS any longer. Both the best and the worst decision I have made in my life. I paid the price but ultimately got a better education. Fortunately, with a bit of ingenuity and a lot of hard work these things can be overcome. It just depends on your outlook and determination.
To quote a line by Mr Wakeman (probably not 100% accurate) from one of your links - 'Success is buried the garden of failure' - you have to go digging for it.

Which reminds me of this particular gem from my past. When 'The Wall' was first released they had this competition on the local radio station at the time and basically you had to answer one dumb question about the band and send in a postcard to the station to be in with a chance of winning tickets to the original Earls's Court concerts - flights included etc. etc. I was basically broke at the time. I filled in hundreds, convinced I was actually going to see PF live!. (Lotto syndrome) Remember, because of the global sanctions against SA at the time, almost no-one would tour there in case it damaged their public profile. Oh they were taking the money all right - all of them. They just would not admit to it. Anyway, I am and always will be a Pink Floyd nut - (my sister sussed this out early on and bought me a copy of the album for my birthday - thx Des - yes I will get you the Barry Manilow make-up kit for your next birthday, I promise).
But the wheel turns - it always does - saw the more lavish, spectacular and downright awesome performance in Dublin last year. Without a doubt the most fantastic thought-provoking visuals I have ever seen at a live concert. Mission accomplished. Sort of....
