Bob Crewe has died - jazzboCR - 13-09-2014
If 60's American pop means anything to you, this name will be instantly recognizable. He was the songwriter and producer of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, and a major reason for their tremendous success. He also did a lot with other groups, including some blue-eyed soul with Mitch Ryder. Obit 1st (a loving, discerning appreciation) then a bunch of tunes (perfect rationale for playing music I dearly love *): http://www.nytimes.com/2014/09/13/arts/music/bob-crewe-songwriter-for-frankie-valli-and-four-seasons-dies-at-83.html

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYBZqfOZiS4
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NGFToiLtXro << you can keep Lauryn Hill's modernist take, and the Lady Antebellum song is a different tune
A Valli-similar song by the Walker Brothers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q11ium_-Lv8 << none of them named Walker and they weren't brothers--they were very big in the UK
Work w/others: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6uq49ueugg
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AGMJnkrAQco << zero stage presence--it's all voice (and a wicked sense of humor)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LvYKQrBmU08 << best song ever celebrating a hooker, this side of "Love for Sale" << includes a click-through to the entire concert
Been a bad week for music lovers, as Gerald Wilson also has died (see Jazz forum for that).
BONUS: full concert: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KPwcAXycAy4 << not all w/4Seasons, not all Bob Crewe doin's
* Not least because I had a falsetto good enough to cover this stuff--alas, it's long since fled.
