Paul McCartney 'tribute album' - CRAZY-HORSE - 12-09-2014 there is a tribute album being released in November that is a tribute to
Sir Paul McCartney, and features Macca covers by other artists... there will be a single cd disc,a double and also a 'boxset', the boxset contains three discs and a 'making of...' dvd apparently... now, im not a huge fan of covers but occasionally we do find the odd little gem that is fantastic, judging by the song and artist list, this will be a pretty darn good set of covers....and why not, Macca is afterall, the most successful songwriter in the history of popular music and already, there have literally been, many thousands of covers of his songs already recorded.... ![]() the tracklisting is,IMO, pretty impressive, and the covers are actually played, by artists whom i think have chosen the songs that best suit them... artists include: KISS,Bob Dylan,Steve Miller,Jeff Lynne, Yusuf(cat stevens),Cure, Roger Daltry and Dr.John to name a few... for a complete track/artist breakdown click on the link to the NME official webpage.... http://www.nme.com/news/paul-mccartney/79656 Paul McCartney 'tribute album' - jazzboCR - 12-09-2014 I don't know his ouevre well enough to answer this, but does this include good songs he wrote but never did--tunes he sold/gave away to such as Badfinger and more modern efforts? 'Cuz if not, that would make a great follow-on project. Mi dos centavos. Paul McCartney 'tribute album' - CRAZY-HORSE - 12-09-2014 theyre all songs he has sung, either Beatles,Wings or solo i agree a project of songs he wrote but never released himself would be a fine project indeed.... these two spring to mind straight away..... Everly Brothers "wings of a nightingale"(UK top10 hit,mid 1890s) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRb8_4dQkBM live version Rod Stewart "mine for me"( from the 1974 album 'smlier') http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3jiDTdIuLv8 audio only Paul McCartney 'tribute album' - SteveO - 12-09-2014 Impressed with the lineup for Macca's tribute album! Paul McCartney 'tribute album' - jazzboCR - 12-09-2014 Let me slip in some of Sir Paul's doin's. First up is jamming with some Memphis cats--1/2 hour of sitting in: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VJWQi-j3-JM#t=98 << he's not "featured", just hanging with the homeys. Yeah, that's Johnny Depp in the fedora and doubtless alcohol and, er, vegetation helped move everybody along. Next is him and Springsteen doing a Beatles classic: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDAMRMQr48g << interesting uploader comments and, though not shown, what the promoters did to their encore comes close to a crime... Finally, an all-star "Hey Jude": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PgJQ6LQ8x1E << I think Sting is a pretentious a$$hat but WTF Kinda cheesy to bootleg this in to another topic, but where else would I put it? Paul McCartney 'tribute album' - CRAZY-HORSE - 12-09-2014 good one jazzy.... and Sting,"pretentious", thats an understatement isnt it??? he's on par with Bono IMO, with McCartney not too far behind, side by side with Gene Simmons. Paul McCartney 'tribute album' - CRAZY-HORSE - 12-09-2014 SteveO Wrote:Impressed with the lineup for Macca's tribute album! yeh,, i think for the most part the artists have pick songs they could probably do justice with and not simply songs they may like i only have hesitations about a couple of artists....The Cure for one, and Billy Joel(maybe im amazed) not a fan of Steve Miller but "junior's farm" is right up his alley(metaphorically speaking,of course!) and one of my favourites in Willie Nelson is either going to destroy or nail "yesterday" IMO Paul McCartney 'tribute album' - jazzboCR - 13-09-2014 CRAZY-HORSE Wrote:good one jazzy.... I took it easy with Sting as this Board is PG-rated ( my ***hat comment aside). I used to think that a bit about Paul Simon 'til that got knocked out of him with a spectacular public failure (that Broadway show). Macca-roon may be pretentious but that vid clip with those bluesey cats didn't look staged and them guys didn't look deferential either. Maybe large parts of him I don't know about. Gene Simmons is a pretentious joke who's parlayed that into great success--gotta appreciate that...if only on its own merits. Paul McCartney 'tribute album' - CRAZY-HORSE - 13-09-2014 to show how "in love with himself" Sting is..... a friend of mine went up to him at the airport on his last Aussie tour with a "police" tour jacket which was previously signed by the two other members of Police on a previous occasion... Sting saw the other two signatures and quipped....i guess i'll sign it for you as its worth nothing without my moniker on it it wasnt so much what he said that put my mate off him but moreso the way he said it, which came across like...those guys were/are nothing without me Paul McCartney 'tribute album' - Jerome - 13-09-2014 CRAZY-HORSE Wrote:to show how "in love with himself" Sting is..... Sting and Stuart Copeland fought like cat and dog. They never agreed on anything. They used to each sneak into the studio when the other wasn't there and fiddle with the mix so that their part in the mix was more prominent than the other's. Boys and their toys. My part is bigger than yours...etc. etc. |
