British police have searched a property belonging to veteran singer Sir Cliff Richard as part of an investigation into an allegation of abuse against a boy at a Christian rally decades ago.
The 73-year-old, a star since the 1950s who won fame with songs such as "Devil Woman" and "Living Doll", was not present at the time of the search at the home in the southern English county of Berkshire.
Eight police searched the property for five hours, and removed several boxes of material.
9NEWS understands the alleged abuse took place at a rally for evangelist Billy Graham. Richard is a committed Christian.





August 15, 2014: British police have spent six hours searching the home of pop icon Sir Cliff Richard, over an alleged sex assault on a boy in the 1980s.
In a statement released from another of his homes in Portugal, Richard slammed the allegations.
"For many months I have been aware of allegations against me of historic impropriety which have been circulating online," he said.
"The allegations are completely false."
South Yorkshire Police executed the search warrant.
"A search warrant was granted after police received an allegation of a sexual nature dating back to the 1980s involving a boy who was under the age of 16 at the time.

"No one has been arrested and the owner of the property was not present."
Richard has sold more than 250 million records over his career and has been nicknamed the Peter Pan of Pop for his enduring youthful looks.
A Christian who shunned the sex, drugs and alcohol lifestyle, the singer in 1995 became the first British rock star to be knighted.

Cliff,
had hits in the UK/Australia since 1958, his latest album was released earlier this year.
he has racked up some 140 charting singles in the UK, and including compilations,his latest album is the 100th of his career...
he has sold inexcess of 250million albums worldwide and is a dedicated 'christian' who loves Tennis(and now,possibly little boys also lmao!)

It's come to light that pop stars and presenters being child molesting monsters are a minuscule problem compared with this utter failure by the police, Crown Prosecution Service (the British equivalent of District Attorneys and Attorneys-General) and the judiciary in Britain. I would be very surprised if CR is found guilty. If you ask me the British media has had one or two valid stories about all this crap (Gary Glitter and Co), but now the tabloids are just trying to drag out the whole sordid mess in order to sell more tatty rags. Why do people still buy newspapers anyway? They are well past their sell-by date.

personally i cannot believe Cliff would be involved...
looks like the Cops didnt find anything during their raid and also, nothing came of it when Cliff was interviewed last week...

fair enough,
they have to investigate any claim made, but for Christsake, dont release the name of anyone until charges are laid, because whether its true or not, Sir Cliff has now had his name and image tarnished and as we all know....some mud sticks when thrown!

Guilty or not guilty...either way as CH said, his name will be maligned somewhat! If these allegations had cropped up years ago, he would have had to live with the outcome much longer since he's now 73. If the victim has made allegations ...it makes you think he is guilty...maybe we'll see ? Sometimes phony accusations arise and the victim is seeking money in an out of court settlement...we've seen this before.

That is a staggering and upsetting revelation Jazz! How in the hail can a city of 258,000 people not know about this for 16 years !!!!! Unfortunately there is no doubt that this is just a drop in the bucket...unbelievable!

That Rotterham situation was in large part Political Correctness run amok--nobody wanted to believe or press forward lest they be accused of racism--Pakistani men preying on Anglo girls just didn't fit in the popular consciousness and was thus ignored/suppressed. Disgusting situation but I don't claim it was peculiar to Britain--there may be other situations in other places equally repellent.
