Is my husband weird? - CMB1888 - 31-03-2009

My husband has around 2000 songs on his ipod, which he plays, by song title, in alphabetical order (duplicates included) . When all songs have been played, he buys an album, adds it to his ipod, and then repeats the process.

He has been doing this for some years

Is this, in any way, human?

What is his explanation for this method?

Sure it is human. It us just, ah, "different".

His explanation is 'why would you play it any other way?' He says that this way he gets to listen to all his music all the time.

I think he justs likes the organised nature of it

Sounds like OCD to me ...

I'm sure he's very nice, but help for this sort of thing is now readily available. Don't both of you suffer in silence, it doesn't have to be this way !!

He sounds "methodical" (I think that's good???). That's a bunch of songs! If he listened 3-4 hours a day it would take him a month to listen through one time (I know - I did the math).

He is. Take me instead.

No - it takes around 4 months! - he's away for his work so is usually only here listening at the weekends.

I can't deny the excitement when 'Ziggy Stardust' comes on (although we do have to listen to both the recorded and live version)

I feel a bit bad complaining now, yes, he is weird but he's pretty cool in most things other than his musical interests.

To get smarmy for a minute: they have these great things called "earphones". That way he does his own sweet natural thing and you don't get bothered. Buy another iPod, copy all his shtuff to yours to play at your own pace--peace and harmony break out. "Sharing is caring"...but not always.
