DAMON ALBARN "everyday robots"

Damon has had many incarnations over the last twenty-five years(really,
has it been twenty-five years already?), from the Brit-pop of Blur,
throught he sampled occasional delights of cartoonland Gorillaz,
and finally to the sampled, dance beats of The Good,The Bad & The Queen,
plus numerous other side projects also...
i often think of him as being a "singles" guy because i cant think of one album
ive ever heard of his that i like from the get-go.
and this album is no different...
but it adds another dimension to his career, this time going pretty much
acoustic on us, with those horrible hollow synth beats that Portishead
have used on their albums...in fact, this album has a hollow, sparse
Portishead feel to it throughout.
this one has twelve tracks, the deluxe version has fifteen plus four live
clips...i just listened to the standard version online at itunes-australia.
his voice sounds all dull, mournful, solomn and dour on here and i simply
couldnt get past it. the album has only just been released today, both here and in the UK,
im sure it will probably get a top5 debut position out there as he is still popular in
Europe.there have been four songs released off this album already, not sure if they are physical
releases or digital ones, but either way, not any of them have made the UK charts...
this album is not for me, i'll stick to my Blur best of set and remember what a great
little singles band they were as there are only two tracks on this one i can say come close
to liking on a first up listen and they are linked below.
i do not like this album.

Pretty good! I liked both tracks...Damon at least tries to be different!

Quite like hostiles, can seewhat you mean by the portishead influence, quite a broken beat.

I always have full respect for any artist who is not afraid to try new things or to take their music in a new direction.
