What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 23-02-2010 from my library (vinyl) ![]() From Michigan to Texas to where he fit best. Another Southern California transplant that would write hits for the likes of the Eagles and Linda Ronstadt, and none other than Glenn Frey shows up here. Influenced by Roy Orbison that shows up here also in the beautiful title track, which is his best song imo. The album is very much in the style of the Eagles country/rock flavored tracks. He has only produced five albums but those have had a big influence. Some weak numbers here but overall it's pretty good. Reaching #41 on the album charts with that tile track going to #7. I LIKE THIS ALBUM Worst Track - Fifteen Bucks Best Track - You're Only Lonely When the world is ready to fall On your little shoulders And when you're feelin' lonely and small You need somebody there to hold you You can call out my name when you're only lonely Now don't you ever be ashamed When you're only lonely When you need somebody around On the nights that try you Remember I was there when you were a queen And I'll be the last one there beside you So you can call out my name When you're only lonely Now don't you ever be ashamed When you're only lonely (You're only lonely) (You're only lonely) (You're only lonely) Ooh...when the world is ready to fall On your little shoulders And when you're feelin' lonely and small You need somebody there to hold you So don't you ever be ashamed When you're only lonely Darling call out my name When you're only lonely (You're only lonely) When you're only lonely (You're only lonely) Oh, it's no crime Darlin' we got lots of time Whoa (You're only lonely) Whoa (You're only lonely) No, there's nothin' wrong with you Darlin', I get lonely too (You're only lonely) (You're only lonely) So, if you need me All you've gotta do is call me Now you're only lonely Ooh ooh ooh ooh Ooh ooh ooh ooh Oh my, my, my, my 1) You're Only Lonely - *** - audio YouTube - J.D. What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 26-02-2010 from my library (cd) After the Box Tops had their run, vocalist Alex Chilton teamed up with former high school classmate Chris Bell to form this short lived band whose legend survives today. Never doing much in the sales department, the band produced three albums of which this is the first and only before Bell left the band. Distribution mishaps were the supposed downfall and led to the final break up in 1974. The album failed to chart with singles of Don't Lie To Me and When My Baby's Beside Me. The band has recently reformed, minus Bell who died in a car accident in 1978. I LIKE THIS ALBUM Worst Track - Don't Lie To Me Best Track - Thirteen Won't you let me walk you home from school? Won't you let me meet you at the pool? Maybe Friday I can, Get tickets for the dance And I'll take you, ooh ooh Won't you tell your dad, 'get off my back'? Tell him what we said 'bout Paint It Black Rock and roll is here to stay Come inside where it's okay And I'll shake you, ooh ooh Won't you tell me what you're thinking of? What a shame that Bob doesn't think more of his older records. I like some of his stuff with the Silver Bullet and few of his solo tunes, but IMO the older stuff is really great. What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 27-02-2010 from my library (cd) Still working on my collection of these remasters and all that can be said is superb. Always hated the original U.S. versions of both this and Help as they only contained about half of what was on the U.K. versions. Knowing that (which I did) the U.S. consumer felt cheated. Even though those tracks that were excluded did show up on other U.S. albums, it just wasn't the same. Now I feel complete. Although I never cared for those beatles films (just too corny), the music engulfed me. This was the third studio album and the first to be all original material. I LOVE THIS ALBUM Worst Track - When I Get Home Best Track - If I Fell If I fell in love with you Would you promise to be true And help me understand 'cause I've been in love before And I found that love was more Than just holding hands If I give my heart to you I must be sure From the very start That you would love me more than her If I trust in you, oh please Don't run and hide If I love you too, oh please Don't hurt my pride like her 'cause I couldn't stand the pain And I would be sad if our new love was in vain So I hope you see that I Would love to love you And that she will cry When she learns we are two cause I couldn't stand the pain and I would be sad if our new love was in vain so I hope you see that I would love to love you and that she will cry when she learns we are two. Formed in 1968 in Michigan by Mark Farner, Don Brewer of Terry Knight and The Pack and Mel Schacher of ? and The Mysterians. They would later add Craig Frost on keyboards, and their sound became more commercial and which is where their decline began imo. Terry Knight would quit performing to become their manager and produced this album. They disbanded in 1976 and Farner pursued a career in christian music while Schacher and Frost joined Bob Segers Silver Bullet Band. The group was panned by the critics but a loyal fan following helped build their sucess which put this album at #6 on the U.S. charts with singles of the only 2 non-originals, Dave Mason's Feelin' Alright and the Stones Gimme Shelter. My two least favorite and both failed as hits. I LIKE THIS ALBUM Worst Track - Gimme Shelter Best Track - I Can Feel Him In The Morning Take me down to the water, let me feel it run over me. Let me feel the pain and the coldness, the loneliness that there must be. Whoa, can't you see their dreams, as they go drifting by? Whoa, can't you see their faces, and their tear-soaked eyes? I can feel him in the morning, I can feel him in the evening too. I can hear him in the morning, tellin' me what I got to do. Got to make a new world, ought to make the old one right. I can see him in the morning, I can see him in the stars at night. Take me out to the battlefield, let me hear the shells flying by. Let me hear the sound of the cannons, let me hear them scream and cry. Whoa, can't you hear their dreams, as they tumble to the blood-soaked ground? Whoa, hear them scream for shelter, from the world they never found. I can feel him in the morning, I can feel him in the evening too. I can hear him in the morning, tellin' me what I got to do. Got to make a new world, ought to make the old one right. I can see him in the morning, I can see him in the stars at night. 1) Country Road - *** - audio YouTube - Grand Funk Railroad - Survival - 01 - Country Road 2) All You've Got Is Money - ** - audio YouTube - Grand Funk Railroad - Survival - 02 - All You've Got Is Money 3) Comfort Me - ** - audio YouTube - Grand Funk Railroad - Survival - 03 - Comfort Me 4) Feelin' Alright - ** - audio YouTube - Grand Funk Railroad - Survival - 04 - Feelin' Alright 5) I Want Freedom - ** - audio YouTube - Grand Funk Railroad - Survival - 05 - I Want Freedom 6) I Can Feel Him In The Morning - *** - audio YouTube - Grand Funk Railroad - Survival - 06 - I Can Feel Him In The Morning 7) Gimme Shelter - * - audio YouTube - Grand Funk Railroad - Survival - 07 - Gimme Shelter 3's - 2 2's - 4 1's - 1 Rating - 2.1 What Are You Listening To? - centurion11 - 01-03-2010 Riverside - " Anno Domini High Definition " Porcupine Tree - " The Incydent " Tesserakt - " The Unknown "
What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 02-03-2010 from my library (vinyl) ![]() The well is dry. Their sixth and last album and rightfully so as it has to be the worst. Produced by Ric Ocasek. While the single of You Are The Girl is a standout track and reached #17 on the charts, that was the lone piece that is worthy of a listen. Strap Me In and Coming Up You were also singles but failed to make a dent. The album peaked at #26 in the states and a dismal #72 in the U.K. The breakup would come shortly. But it was a good run. I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM Worst Track - Door To Door Best Track - You Are The Girl Why don't you dream anymore? What's in the way? How come you point to the door And ask me to stay? Why don't you flash that smile Like you used to do? Why don't you stay for a while? Cliff Wade - Look at Me, I've Fallen Into A Teapot I bought this for the sum of 3GBP whilst on holiday quite a few years ago. Upon listening to it I realised that this album had had another incarnation : infact it was a clone of "Morgan Bluetown Vol I" ....it seems also that during the cloning that one or two tracks have undergone name changes: "The sound quality on this CD is imperfect, and the track listing is flawed and periodically factually incorrect ("House of Many Windows" should be credited to Bobak, Jons, Malone, and not Motherlight) but there are still some pearls on here which any self-respecting fan of the genre should hear, from Jude's marvelous reading of "Morning Morgan Town" to Cliff Wade's preposterous but ultimately lovable "Look at Me, I've Fallen Into A Teapot" - and he does too, right at the end." The story of The Morgan Bluetown label............ Once upon a time, there was a North London based recording studio and record label called Morgan, who were extremely successful in their capacity as the former, attracting visits from the Rolling Stones amongst others, but disappeared completely under the radar as an independent house of hits. Some of their acts such as The Orange Bicycle found success on the continent, but in the UK almost all their bands were ignored, and the label failed to produce anything which charted. Mindful of the changing tide, and perhaps sensing an opportunity to claw back some cash, the label and studio owner Monty Babson created a psychedelic and progressive outlet called Morgan Blue Town in the late sixties which issued a few slabs of vinyl before giving up the ghost. Astonishingly, though, a great many acts were waiting in the wings to issue material for MBT which never got heard outside the studio walls due to the label's demise. Quoted from Left and to the Back: The Best Of and the Rest Of British Psychedelia (aka Morgan Blue Town) So what do you get ? 14 interesting and quite rare psychedelic tracks The Smoke ....."My Friend Jack" I have listed on Tracks People Should Hear We get a chance to hear an earlier line of of The Smoke .....The Shots and their excellent track...........Keep Hold Of What You´ve got. The quirky Cliff Wade produces two tracks here the excellent " Shirley" and the down right odd " Look At Me I`ve Fallen Into A Teapot" ( Strangely I can´t find any connection between Cliff and Morgan Blue Town") The "House Of Many Windows" and "Saga Of A Wrinkled Man" are both excellent tracks are rare . Laura´s Garden is a great lost gem and is a taster for an excellent album. "Leilla" by Chiitra Neogy is an indian influenced instrumental that makes me want to find the album it comes from. Dude`s cover of "Morning Morgan Town" is a first class effort. I think this is an really good introduction to the rare and exotic material produced in the shadows of one of London`s more popular studios ......shame there is not a volume 2!! "
