the Plant/Krauss album isnt too bad IMO....Dani loves Led Zep but dislikes his more mellow solo stuff so beware...theres no rock voices on that "raising sands" album

3rd compilation album, did not chart
Bad move on my part. Two instrumental albums in a row. Actually this one is not entirely, 7 of the 22 tracks have a vocal. Those are the 7 that
I like. I don't like the rest of the album. I don't like instrumentals. Two of those 7 get a love score, the 2 with Emmylou on backing vocal.
She makes them both but I like Leo's vocals also, reminds me of John Hartford or David Bromberg. Anyway Leo has been around for 23 albums so he has his followers, although his highest charting album reached #24 and most have not even hit the chart. I have heard a few of the mans studio albums and they were similar to this retro set, which is why I don't have any other Leo Kottke albums.

only five xmas giftcard purchase post to do after this one..
this one brings together two generations of rock 'guitar virtuoso's"...
this is primarily a covers set of songs they both liked.
the final track is a Knopfler composed track and "yakety axe" is a cover of an old Atkins take on the old "yakety sax" song...
of the ten tracks on offer, five are instrumentals...but that dont matter here as i love listening to their finger-pickin' styles.
i was surprised to find that these guys won two Grammys fro this album, the first for "so soft your goodbye"(best country instrumental) and "poor boy blues"(best country collaboration with vocals)
it was a hard choice between the first and last track for favourite track here from me, so i'll put up both links and you can make your own mind up!
not a great album by any means, but pleasant, and i guess it gave Knopfler a chance to reinvent himself after years of Dire Straits and movie soundtracks

ive almost got through my xmas purchase list now...
this was actually the first one i had on my list to buy,yet at the end of the posting list...
like the others ive heard this in my car a few times prior to posting...
my inital score was around 1.8/3.0...it hasnt changed much...
anyway, IMO, Jackson is probably the best modern country guy around at the moment...at least he sticks closer to 'traditional/real' country than his contemporary's do!
so its no surprise he has turned his hand to the most traditional country sound this time round...
there's five covers on this one but the majority are Jackson originals, i dont think there's anything great on htis album, but likewise, theres nothing bad, just an honest album by an honest country singer...
so a score of 2.0 is what this one gets from me
