bitterly cold here yesterday only reaching 12.3C/54F,
official temp in 'perth was a couple of degrees warmer but it still made it the coldest day here for five years!
only 1.3C/34F last night...
didn't hit the 10C/50F target today until 11am, 1pm now,and just hovering around 14C/57F

Topsail Beach Police Sergeant. Zach Cook was responding to the scene and helped to get the girl to EMS, but when he was leaving the beach he was also struck by lightning.
The teen was hospitalized.
Sgt. Cook's injuries do not appear to be as serious, he was still taken to the hospital to be checked out.

Summer is known for severe weather in the Carolinas, but did you know that North Carolina has one of the highest numbers of lightning deaths in the country.

According to the National Weather Service, North Carolina has the second highest numbers of lightning-related casualties, including injuries and deaths, from 1959 to 2007.
In that 48-year time period, the Tar Heel state had 818 causalities from lightning, including 186 recorded deaths.
My grandad was struck by lightning and died when he was 57. The strick was so hot it melted the shoes on his feet.
He was standing inside a doorway at work waiting for the storm to pass when the strick came through the roof and hit him.
