What Are You Listening To? - gryphon - 19-02-2010 Two giants of the guitar take time to play together and produce an album that is Oh so mellow............Floyd Cramer joins them on piano................hey people this is where it's at !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What Are You Listening To? - writehearnow - 19-02-2010 Been into a couple of classic albums this week. The first is the s/t sole album by a lesser known band from the UK that played the German scene quite heavily back in the late 60s/early 70s. Very tasty (and done right groovy) prog rock offerings from the band "I Drive". What a classic and HIGHLY recommended! The second is the old Detroit classic, Full House "Live" by the J. Geils Band. Believe it or not, I was influenced to play this based on the fact that I read one of the Winter Olympic skating competitors used "Whammer Jammer" for their skating routine. I am not much of an Olympic follower myself, but man that must have been one MOTIVATED routine! What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 20-02-2010 from my library (cd) Not much you can say about this, is there? It's numbers and recognition speak for themselves. Number 1 in the UK for 27 weeks and in the US for 15 weeks. Four grammy awards. Numer one on the Rolling Stone list of the greatest albums of all time. So I think it had a little bit of an impact. I LOVE THIS ALBUM Worst Track - Within You, Without You Best Track - She's Leaving Home Wednesday morning at five o'clock as the day begins Silently closing her bedroom door Leaving the note that she hoped would say more She goes downstairs to the kitchen clutching her handkerchief Quietly turning the back door key Stepping outside she is free She (we gave her most of our lives) is leaving (sacrificed most of our lives) home (we gave her everything money could buy) She's leaving home after living alone for so many years (bye bye) Father snores as his wife gets into her dressing gown Picks up the letter that's lying there Standing alone at the top of the stairs She breaks down and cries to her husband Daddy our baby's gone Why would she treat us so thoughtlessly How could she do this to me She (We never thought of ourselves) is leaving (never a thought for ourselves) home (we struggled hard all our lives to get by) She's leaving home after living alone for so many years (bye bye) Friday morning at nine o'clock she is far away Waiting to keep the appointment she made Meeting a man from the motor trade She (what did we do that was wrong) is having (we didn't know it was wrong) fun (fun is the one thing that money can't buy) Something inside that was always denied for so many years (bye bye) She's leaving home (bye bye) 1) Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band - ** - video YouTube - The Beatles - Sgt. What Are You Listening To? - Tiggi - 20-02-2010 Grateful Dead - Winterland 1973: The Complete Recordings ![]() Grateful Dead in concert, yet again... This one comprises three consecutive home fixtures for the band from '73, over the course of no fewer than nine CDs. Their usual Country-Blues-Jazz-Rock blend prevails, and there is some fabulous playing on this box set. The Dead are a funny old beast. They couldn't sing, they didn't have any really outstanding instrumentalists IMV, and yet they were hugely successful right to the end (I don't regard any of the post-Garcia activities as having any legitimacy). What makes them special to me is the way they play together. They have an unusually instinctive degree of interplay between them, which I find absolutely enthralling. Recommended for sad obsessives only... What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 20-02-2010 ^^ never was a deadhead, but somehow always had admiration for their work ethic. Am told a lot I look like Garcia but I never saw it. What Are You Listening To? - Tiggi - 21-02-2010 ^ You're not a great fan of live albums, are you Ed ? I think they are one of the few bands that only really make sense on their live output. I also have a strong collecting instinct, and their dozens of live releases are a bit of a collector's dream. What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 21-02-2010 Tiggi Wrote:^ You're not a great fan of live albums, are you Ed ?Yea, you're right, not a big fan of live albums in general, at least in the rock genre. Only one I can think of I like is Cheap Trick at Buddokan. Not sure why. I have a few Dead albums, but they would get a low grade. What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 21-02-2010 from my library (digital) Seventh album by the Canadian rockers, hitting #4 in the US, and marking a transition from the harder sound to be more radio friendly. Of course that would lead to the sell-out charges, which any band that finds success faces. They were probably really upset while they were cashing those royalty checks. Personaly I don't find the album much different than Hemispheres. I found Geddy Lee's vocals a little less grating, which I think is what made it appear to be more radio accessible. I LIKE THIS ALBUM Worst Track - Freewill Best Track - Entre Nous We are secrets to each other Each one's life a novel No-one else has read. Even joined in bonds of love, We're linked to one another By such slender threads. We are planets to each other, Drifting in our orbits To a brief eclipse. Each of us a world apart, Alone and yet together, Like two passing ships. Chorus Just between us, I think it's time for us to recognize The differences we sometimes fear to show. Just between us, I think it's time for us to realize The spaces in between Leave room for you and I to grow. We are strangers to each other, Full of sliding panels, An illusion show. Acting well-rehearsed routines Or playing from the heart? It's hard for one to know. Chorus We are islands to each other, Building hopeful bridges On a troubled sea. Some are burned or swept away, Some we would not choose, But we're not always free. Chorus 1) The Spirit Of Radio - ** - live YouTube - Rush- The Spirit of Radio (Live) 2) Freewill - * - live YouTube - Rush - Freewill ( Exit Stage Left ) 3) Jacobs Ladder - ** - audio YouTube - Rush Jacobs Ladder 4) Entre Nous - *** - audio YouTube - Entre Nous 5) Different Strings - ** - audio YouTube - Rush Different Strings 6) Natural Science - ** - audio YouTube - Rush Natural Science 3's - 1 2's - 4 1's - 1 Rating - 2.0 What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 22-02-2010 from my library (vinyl) ![]() One prior to the total disaster of The Doctor, this is almost as bad. Hard to imagine this is the same band as those first few brilliant albums, but so it goes. This one marked the return of original producer Jack Douglas which didn't help. This is their eighth studio album with singles of Tonight It's You, which reached #8 and Little Sister and How About You, both of which failed to hit the top 40. The album reached #35. I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM Worst Track - Rock All Night Best Track - Love Comes 1) Little Sister - ** - live YouTube - Cheap Trick - Little Sister 2) Tonight It's You - ** - live http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M82OAUouEUQ 3) She's Got Motion - * 4) Love Comes - ** - audio YouTube - Cheap Trick - Love Comes 5) How About You - * 6) Standing On The Edge - ** 7) This Time Around - * - audio YouTube - Cheap Trick - this time around 8) Rock All Night - * - audio YouTube - Cheap Trick - Rock All Night 9) Cover Girl - ** - audio http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W9TXeWZKOHw 10) Wild Wild Women - * 3's - 0 2's - 5 1's - 5 Rating - 1.5 |
