PETE SEEGER "the essential" cd, 2013
xmas giftcard purchase one again....
cant recall whether i purchased this one the day before he died in January aged 93 or the day after...?
this is a two disc set, of which im posted disc #1 only today.
Pete was a highly influential folky and political activist through the 1950s-60s...if there was a cause he could champion,turn up to and play one of his protest songs then he would surely be there...much the same as British singer Billy Bragg...
the guy is very much the same ilk as Woodie Guthrie and those that admire guthrie also admire Seeger...
people like Springsteen,Bragg,Dylan etc all namedrop Seeger as having a heavy influence on their career...
strange thing is, after hearing this album i dont rate him anywhere near as high as those guys, but he is okay(give me billy bragg/the boss and dylan anyday.
that said, his music and songs are okay...i guess he's just one of those artists which "you had to be there to understand"...
album doesnt come out as good as it probably should have but im still looking foreward to playing disc two in the near future...

Can't believe this is the only thing I have by her but sadly it is true. Took Emmylous place for me with that sweet little bluegrass voice.
Three unreleased tracks and the rest pulled from her solo albums, Union Station albums and a few from guest appearances. Alison had not yet made
an impact when this was released. It became her highest charting album pulled by that second single above which is my fav. Since this album she
has not charted out of the country top 10. After recording for a decade she had hit the big leagues with a compilation. Allmusic gives it a
perfect score.

The man has 17 albums and I think this is the first one I've heard. Went in thinking it would suck and I was totally wrong. Hope this doesn't
make me a modern country fan. What's next, freakin Keith Urban? I feel like a redneck. Toby's sales have been on the decline for his last few
albums and this one hasn't even reached gold status. Guess Toby's on that downward spiral but at least I was there at the end. Makes me wonder
if I didn't miss something. His catalogue is too deep to try and go back at this point, but if he shows up in the discount bin I might dig a
little deeper in the well. Surprised only 4 tracks available from this and not even my fav.
