Music Head loved this in a review last November, and I have to agree. This is a great album.

More synthetic than most of The Strokes material, this is music that harks back to the '80s, yet still manages to sound contemporary & fresh.

New York band with their sophomore effort, after receiving high praise for the first. They pick up producer Jim Wurt (Incubus, Hoobstank) for this one. The band consists of Chris Petrosino - Piano/Guitar/Vocals, Rob McCurdy - Guitar/Vocals, Justin Wiley - Vocals/Guitar, Jessica Leplon- Vocals and Dan Celikoyar- Drums/Percussion. Some good tracks, but most miss the mark for me, just falling short of the buy grade.

Brit Alternative band that didn't last too long, although I think they've since reformed. The singer is the son of '60s actress Hayley Mills FWIW.

Inventive blend of guitar Rock, & Eastern spiritualism. Well worth a listen once in a while...

i just got the new album punk goes classic rock. songs from queen, blue oyster cult, and rolling stons, along with other artists are redone by new punk bands. my favorite song on the album is definitely paint it black by versamerge. pretty awesome. look it up!

Not the Hoodoo I remember. Of course it's been 25 years since Mars Needs Guitars blew me away. Have a few others, but always thought Mars was the best. Didn't expect to have flashbacks or anything, but with only 3 tracks I liked out of 16, that's not a very high average. With 6 years since the last release, which I never heard, and an 8 year layoff prior to that, that's a 16 year drought for me. I'm a math whiz. The guys can still rock out, but it just didn't hit me the same. The album is getting good reviews though, so once again, I guess I'm out of touch in my mellowing out years.

New York band fronted by Matthew Houck, who is a Georgia resident and Alabama native. Other members come and go with Houck being the mainstay. This is the fifth full length and the first to include other musicians. A couple of duds, but mostly good stuff for me with an Eagles alt/country laid back feel, and The Mermaid Parade a near gem. Only complaint is the brief 9 songs. I feel cheated.

Had heard of the Shins for awhile, but hadn't heard them till this. Glad I dipped in. Band was formed in 1997 in New Mexico but now resides in Oregon. Signed to Sub Pop in 2001 for the debut and this is the follow up. It cracked the U.S. charts at #86. Kinda short, clocking in at just over 30 minutes, but loving 5 of the 10 tracks makes up for it. Of course there are a couple that fall way short, making this average out just under the love mark overall.
