California boy with his fourth album. Last album had songs featured in various tv programs, Greys Anatomy, True Blood, Castle, 90210 and Dollhouse.Pretty good album overall, with one near great, and no doubt more tracks will be on the tube, as he has made his mark there. Once again these live clips are not even close to being representative of the the studio versions, but you take what you can get.

Formed in 1993 in Californina with their 4th album. Debut album reached platinum ststaus and #28 on the U.S. charts, but they have yet to equal that performance, even though the last album received 2 grammy nominations. What was presumed to be a breakup in 2004 turned out to be a long hiatus, as members pursued other project, only to get back together in 2008 to begin work on this self titled album, their first in 8 years. A long time to try and regain a following. Release Me is the first single.

Canadian band formed in 1997 with their 5th release.Good reviews over the years, but have yet to break, achieving nominal chart success. This one has debuted the highest of any. Vocal chores are shared, but those when Neko Case takes over are the best for me. Nice use of strings throughout.

Debut from Pennsylvainia band consisting of Scott Wells, Paul Sprangers, Evan Wells, Geoff Bucknam, and Nick Shuminksy. Rolling Stone has named them one of the best new bands of 2010. Probably a curse. Caught the ear of LCD Soundsystems James Murphy who signed on to produce this. No really bad tracks, and a couple bordering on great. Sounds pretty good to me. Stuffed with them pop hooks. Woops, I'm not supposed to like those.

Seattle band formed in 2001 with their fourth album, with a new label for this one, and Joe Chiccarelli (White Stripes, My Morning Jacket) producing. The band is made up of Jake Snider – guitar, lead vocals, Dave Knudson – guitar, Alex Rose – keyboards, backing vocals, Cory Murchy – bass and Erin Tate – drums. My Time is the first single. A couple of good tracks, but overall a little too synth heavy for me.

Really like this New York based band, actually formed in Ohio in 1999. Consisting of two sets of brothers, Aaron & Bryce Dessner and Scott & Bryan Devendorf along with vocalist Matt Berninger. More members for live performances, sort of Arcade Fire type. This is their 5th release, and the last was the first to chart, meaning this one has some recognition going for it at least. Various influences here with nothing bad for me, and the single of Bloodbuzz Ohio rocks my world. I don't go out on a limb too often, but I'm predicting big things for these guys. Not in the mainstream of course, but among alt circles.

Minnesota band formed in 2007 consisting of Pat Brown - vocals, guitar, Kieren Smith - guitar, backing vocals, Nate Flynn - bass, Ben Peterson - keyboard, synthesizer and Christopher "Sick Boy" Lee - drums, out with their sophomore effort. Close association with Motion City Soundtrack. Signed to Epitaph after only a few shows together. Said to be quite a shift from the first album which had more of an emo-pop feel, to this outing with more slow tempo and high production. Just missed my like ranking with three good tracks and only one clunker, in the leadoff. Too many border line tracks that all have the same
poppish sound.

Canadian band with their 8th album, but only 2 original members hanging on, even though some of the others show up from time to time. Vocalist Brad Roberts has been there from the beginning with that creepy bass voice. I like creepy. They have yet to equal the success of the second album, God Shuffled His Feet, with the single Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm reaching #4 U.S., #2 U.K. and #1 Aus. With a 6 year layoff, this album picks up right where they left off, with no major sound change, and Brad still creeping us out. One standout track for me, which of course is not available. In fact not much available at all. I guess Sony is holding back again. Also only 1 I didn't care for at all, which makes this average out to just crossing the buy mark.
