What Are You Listening To? - Lovely Linda - 17-02-2014

Actually I was watching and listening to the movie Coal Miner's Daughter. Just love that country film. Music Head did you and Crazy-Horse go to Loretta's Ranch when you went to Nashville?? Just wondering. We went. I didn't know it was so far back in the woods away from Nashville. There were folks camping there. We went through the town there and saw the house. Glad I was able to get to go there!! We went to several country singers homes Confusedmile:

It's about 75 miles west of Nashville. Camping and the small town of Hurricane Mills. Way out in the woods Confusedmile:[Image: loretta-lynn_s-hurricane-mills-via-trave...ntures.jpg]

That's Loretta's house at Hurricane Mills. There is a General Store, Restaurant, Post Office, & Water Mill. Just to name a few places. Didn't want to put the whole town on here. There were alot of camping going on when we were there. It's just a very small country town. Like back in time.

Back to the film. Tommy Lee Jones is one of my favorite actors. He and Susan Sarandon was great in The Client. I remember when he started out acting. He was on One Life To Live. That was my favorite Soap Opera. Loved him in The Fugitive too with Harrison Ford. Getting a little off topic so I'll end here.

THE MAMAS AND THE PAPAS "all time greatest" cd, 1992

career stats:
studio albums: 5
singles: 19
length of career: 3.5yrs
#1 hits:
Australia: "dream a little dream"
America: "monday monday"

another of my xmas gift card purchases from the end of last year, beginning of 2014...
twenty tracks on this compilation, fourteen of which were "a" sides of singles back in the day, a couple of others on here were origianlly "b" sides of singles, and
a couple of other recordings thrown in the mix,not sure if those ones appeared on studio albums back in the day or were previously unreleased as the linear notes
really arent the most informative here!
several covers on here...i love their version of the Beatles classic "i call your name"...love the Beatles version also!
they also cover "do you wanna dance"...i dont like that song period!
"twist and shout", i dont like their version neither, but they do it their folky way, so its totally different to the earlier recorded versions by other artists...
i love at around half the album so its pretty hard for me to pick out a favourite track but the first one that came to my mind a second or two ago was "creeque alley" so i'll
go with that one this time round...!
shame about the four tracks i dont like or this one would have got a love rating, but it just misses that mark so i dont really mind!
all up though, a great representation of what and who these guys were and why they were one of the most influential folky groups of the late 1960s...

I LIKE THIS ALBUM

worst track: do you wanna dance
best track: creeque alley

BOBBY GOLDSBORO "the very best of..." cd, 2007

another xmas giftcard purchase, this time a best of set from bobby Goldsboro...
stupid thing is, is that of the twenty-five tracks on this only around eight were issued as singles, which really makes the title one of deception, considering he did chart in the US on no less than 62 occasions between 62-82 with singles?!?!
and of those tracks it doesnt contain any of his early singles from his pop/rock and roll days(stays strictly country!), so there is no "see the funny little clown" or my personal favourite "little things" on this disc.
it is however, a good collection of tracks, mainly country covers like "i cant stop loving you", "ruby", "and i love you so", "behind closed doors" etc(you get the picture, right?).
only five tracks i love on here, and coincidently, they happen to be self penned tracks of Goldsboro.
to off-set the five i love, there are seven i dislike which takes the overall score right down to a dissapointing 1.9 this time round, but thats okay because i now have "honey" and "summer" in my collection!
im not putting up links as im too tired to do so...i have just got home from working in 40C/105F heat all day and just want to cool off in the air-con!
