Top 5 punk bands? - Thraak - 05-12-2011 Always been a moderate fan of The Clash, Iggy Pop & The Fall etc but was never really a huge fan of 'punk' until I recentley heard a band called Magazine who while more attributed to 'post punk' genre... totally changed my view of the genre which I hadn't really previously held in that high regard. After seeing Magazine live along with also discovering and catching Wire live in the space of a few weeks, I have a new appreciation for 'punk' music.. albeit the more intricate, inventive and experimental stuff belonging to the 'post-punk' category. Funny thing is after falling in love with 'post-punk', I have revisited some more of the straightforward punk music such as 'The Clash's' early stuff and now have a new appreciation of it. Latest band I discovered is an Australian group called Radio Birdman who play very varied material... And yes... I agree Green Day is most definitely not punk!!! More like Pop-Rock with punk stylings... :hand: Top 5 punk bands? - mtthwibrahim - 10-12-2011 are the Replacemnts considered "punk", because if so, them totally Top 5 punk bands? - SteveO - 10-12-2011 "punk stylings" ...then they're punk... note IMHO...early career they were definitely wild and out there as punk rockers...here's another example of too many genres....to me The Ramones are it !!!! in Punk !!!!....Magazine in concert....exactly Mr. Soul...I seem to really appreciate the artist a lot more after seeing them live !!!!..Being a huge live album fan ( listening to Grateful Dead Live albums...and there are tons of them.. at the moment).... Top 5 punk bands? - SteveO - 10-12-2011 There could be a case in point regarding The Clash as hard core punk ? I wouldn't classify their seminal London Calling album as Punk perse...there's a lot of reggae, jazz, and rock overtones and it had a bit of pop rock ..it appealed to a considerably large audience....similar to Green Day,,, lol ?????
