Politics - CRAZY-HORSE - 24-02-2016 Music Head Wrote:come on guys no technically its not free, the money to allow for such measures is put aside from our taxes to cover medical bills by the Federal Government under Medicare. hypothetically: if I break an arm, I can go to the doctors for free, get an xray for free, have a cast put on for free, have follow up check up over the next six to eight week or free, have the cast removed for free... no out o pocket expense and a fixed up arm! Politics - Music Head - 24-02-2016 CRAZY-HORSE Wrote:no technically its not free, the money to allow for such measures is put aside from our taxes to cover medical bills by the Federal Government under Medicare.and I prefer your system with the little I know about it is there any red tape to receiving care? how are prescriptions handled? are health care workers paid by the government? and of course you know answering these questions will only lead to more questions Politics - CRAZY-HORSE - 24-02-2016 you have to be a permanent resident of Australia... you take your prescriptions to the pharmacy... pensioners pay no more than $5 per prescription, I youre on what is classed as low income you can get a healthcare card and receive the same entitlements as pensioners. if not, you pay full price for prescriptions, average price is around $15-$20. we have so called 'generic brands' of medications also, they contain the same active ingredients as the name brands but cost a bit less, most hospitals come under the umbrella of the Government but there are quite a few privately run hospitals also(if you have health insurance) regardless of whether you have insurance or not, if you need to go in an ambulance you are taken to the nearest hospital I it is life threatening. also with the tax system... if you keep all of your prescription receipts you can then prove how much you've spent during the tax year (july thru june), if the total is over $1000 per household at anytime during that period the rest of your prescriptions are free for the remainder of that year. the main bonus of having health insurance is that you can elect to go to your choice of hospital for treatment and also your choice of surgeon, but obviously, if its life or death like a heart attack or something you would want to get to any hospital ASAP. Politics - Music Head - 24-02-2016 are health care workers paid by the government? prescription drug prices are out of control here you know I get VA health care I have no complaints my only out of pocket is for prescriptions at $26 per Politics - CRAZY-HORSE - 24-02-2016 only in the Government run public hospitals... in the private hospitals they rely mainly on the private insurance holders but they do get grants rom the Govt on an annual basis. infact most of the private hospitals are owned and run by the Catholic/Anglican Churches...bottomless pit of money there for sure! you usually find the top medical graduates get employed in the private hospitals, their income is usually more than the Government workers, the private school system is the same. Politics - Jerome - 24-02-2016 Ireland is out of control with regards to Medical Insurance etc. A bottle of tablets (can't remember the name) was 12 GBP in the UK. In Ireland the self same drug costs 78 Euro's for the same amount of tabs. Insane! Politics - Lovely Linda - 24-02-2016 I don't think any of my meds are over 10 dollars for 3 months (generic). Some are less. Dr. visit 5 dollars. Specialist 10 dollars. ER 100 dollars. I can choose my own Drs. and I have a very good insurance company. Only thing is I have to pay about 200 dollars a month for insurance. The rest is paid for by the government. I could choose a cheaper plan but it does not pay as well. Politics - CRAZY-HORSE - 25-02-2016 another bonus that pensioners get here in Australia courtesy of the Federal government... they are entitled to one annual free return trip via train or coach to any destination in the State they live in. I couldn't give you the stats on how many take up the offer to do so though. Politics - Music Head - 26-02-2016 GOP debate last night this stuff is hilarious wish a network would pick it up as a series |
