What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 29-01-2014 Artist Recording History studio albums - 60 compilation albums - 28 singles - 119 from my library (cd) ![]() The biggest musical loss of last year for me. It was a nice run George. Most here know my fondness of the man. Tops my list of all time country artists. This compilation doesn't do justice to his 60 album career, but it's a great starter. Not much in the way of liner notes, which should always accompany a compilation. I love this but I would recommend something more extensive which I have done since I purchased this. Consider this album an appetizer. A note on my worst track, love the song, but I prefer James Taylors original. I LOVE THIS ALBUM Worst Track - Bartender's Blues Best Track - He Stopped Loving Her Today Track Listing 1. A Picture of Me (Without You) *** live - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FK6WAecUCBs 2. What Are You Listening To? - SteveO - 30-01-2014 I agree 100 % Crazy mate!!!!! What Are You Listening To? - KnarfRethcaw - 30-01-2014 Agreed. The Possum was the greatest pop/country artist of all time. I use that term "pop" only due to his output being charts driven to the greater extent and not in the same vein you would say "pop" talking about Carrie Underwood or some other manufactured illusion of what we sell in the states as country music. If you have not checked out Carla Bozulich's covers of several George Jones songs throughout her career I recommend them. Her work was a wonderful complement to the Possums endless brilliance. She also did an entire album remaking Nelson's Red Headed Stranger as well. It was endlessly annoying to me the day George Jones died. People were coming into my shop as I was playing his music over the stereo, adding their two cents about him here and there. Always about his drinking blah blah, his mid-period downers, and the level of moderate insignificance his career sunk into leading up to his final days. To which I would retort, George Jones could have put out a new album of Chipmunks duets every day for a month and it still wouldn't tarnish what he did as a young man. A crazy untouchable legacy. I would add, George Jones played in the town I live in 4 years ago on my birthday. 2 months prior, I had gone into this stupid idea of not reading the local papers. I already did not listen to any radio so I did not hear about the show. Everyone that knows me is well aware of my love for George Jones, yet not one single person told me about the show. Needless to say, I missed it. There are people that I still don't talk to over that. What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 30-01-2014 ^^ nice post Knarf stick around What Are You Listening To? - SteveO - 31-01-2014 Great performance and great lyrics...REAL country! I saw him in MB ![]() What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 31-01-2014 Band Members for this release Alan Jackson - vocals, guitar Monty Allen â acoustic guitar, harmony vocals Scott Coney â acoustic guitar, tic tac bass, banjo Robbie Flint â steel guitar Danny Groah â lead guitar Ryan Joseph - fiddle, harmony vocals Bruce Rutherford â drums Joey Schmidt â keyboards Roger Wills â bass guitar Artist Recording History studio albums - 16 compilation albums - 7 live albums - 1 singles - 60 videos - 47 from my library (cd) ![]() My favorite current country artist when he came out and he still keeps it country. The man has remained with the same label (Arista) since he started. Some loyalty on both sides for that to happen. He is the recipient of 2 Grammys, 16 CMA Awards, 17 ACM Awards, Grand Ole Opry member, and has had 50 singles in the top 10 of the country chart. Sometimes the country fans get it right. The man deserves all of those accolades. This is Alans second album and I keep meaning to get the first. There were five singles from the album, 4 reaching #1 and the other #3. Three love tracks for me with Dallas getting the top. Nothing I don't like on here. A treat with George Jones showing up for the last line of Alan's tribute song Just Playin' Possum, another of my love tracks. On the country album charts the album reached #3 here and #6 Canada. And Alan has always crossed over to the big chart coming in at #17 there. I LIKE THIS ALBUM Worst Track - Working Class Hero Best Track - Dallas Track Listing 1. Just some more good honky tonkin. His sixth album, producing six singles, tops being the leadoff Little Bitty, going to #1 country and crossing over to the big chart. I didn't know that was written by Tom T. Hall but I don't know if he recorded it. My favorite on here was one of those singles but the lowest charting of the six, only hitting #18 country. Allmusic says that song is worthy of George Jones, which should tell you why it's my favorite. The album hit #1 on the country chart here, which had become common for Alan, and a #12 crossover. Canada likes Alan too, going to #1 country. I LOVE THIS ALBUM Worst Track - Between the Devil And Me Best Track - A House With No Curtains Track Listing 1.
