Brit band formed in 2006 consisting of Charles Watson and Rebecca Taylor with their debut album. Got their start doing jingles for commercials and a couple of ep's. While the slower tracks have a folk/rock sound with some nice harmonies, the up tempo numbers really rock. A good mixture of tempo. The name similarity leads me to a Slow Season comparison on the slower tracks. A lot of indecisive tracks for me, thus the .5's, meaning with more play they would surely move up. Giving Up On Love is the first single.

Wallflowers, son of Bob, how do you live up to those expectations? A damn good attempt here, with his second solo album. I guess the Wallflowers are gone for now, as their contract has expired. That leaves Jakob to pursue, probably whatever he wishes. Some background vocals from Neko Case and produced by T-Bone Burnett here. Jakob switches to Wallflowers producer T-Bone after trying out Rick Rubin on the first solo effort. Mostly good songs here for me with only one track that I didn't care at all for. A couple of good studio live clips on #'s 1 and 5. The others are not too good. No audio clips due to those stupid youtube restrictions.

Magic Lantern - Dark Cicadas from Platoon [Not Not Fun Records, 2010]

I'm sure this drone/psych-rock has been done a million times over since 1969. Still this is damn fine. From the label:

"... a monstrous hot-rod cruise into screaming dual wah distortions powered by the poker faced Gavin/Chip rhythm section and splattered with jazzy freak-out organ and the occasional Stallones echo yelp. "

Canadian, former Hole Bassist, out with her second solo album. Briefly a member of Smashing Pumpkins. Five years since the first solo effort, Melissa also has a gig as a professional photographer, but I guess the music came calling. This is supposed to be a concept album about Vikings and Nordic myths, although I wouldn't have known that without reading it. Not too bad with one outstanding track, which of course there is no clip for. The title track is the first single.
