Dewey Bunnell was born on this day in 1952. Co-founder of the band America, ironically, he was born in Yorkshire, England to a US serviceman and his wife who were stationed there at the time. He sings, writes and plays guitar and other instruments, and the band endures - to this day!

This was his creation, and vocal –

I have five of their albums...the first five.
I don't know why, but I love America but don't like Eagles,
Yet Dani loves Eagles and hates America???

Funny story from NY's autobiography regarding the song linked...

Neil went back to Canada to visit his dad and his dad thought the
song was his.

Dad: Love your new single son
Neil: I didn't know I had one out
Dad: Oh yeh, "horse with no name", best one yet.
Neil: Its not mine but I wish it was.

If you listen you could imagine it being a NY song though, well, I can.

Happy Birthday to Eric Stewart. He was born on this day in 1945, in Lancashire, England. Best known for his leading role in 10cc. Apart from vocals and the ability to play an impressive array of instruments, he’s also produced and/or engineered and written for a number of luminaries; Justin Hayward, John Lodge, Neil Sedaka, Agnetha Fältskog & Paul McCartney to name some. Additionally, he features on a fair few Alan Parsons tracks as lead vocalist, and did some work for Eric Woolfson as well.

He sings on two tracks on Alan Parson’s On Air – both beautiful – Bairnson’s guitar is so plaintive on this on this one – “Blown by the Wind” - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=olTXdmzgIwI, and the other is equally lovely – “Blue, Blue Sky” - [URL="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HCg9NKlsILU"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HCg9NKlsILU

For the 10cc sample, instead of "I'm Mandy ....", I’ve chosen the probably lesser known “Lazy Ways” from How Dare You! (spot the Phantom of the Opera riff at 1.50?!!). He wrote and was lead on both. I picked up the vinyl version a short while ago - great seventies gatefold cover - and it’s a very good album IMHO.

yes it is Ruby

How Dare You I mean
odd, and good

Born on this day ... - Ruby - 20-01-2016

^Funny how the two often go together.
Odd and good, I mean.
It may be imperative,
the alternative is banal.

And now, I'll take this good chance to shut up.
Hopefully not too late.

Plácido Domingo, renowned and magnificent operatic tenor was born on this day in 1941, in Madrid, Spain.

I’m not normally a big fan of crossovers by artists, particularly when it comes to opera singers, but this clip with John Denver is charming, even if the video’s a little out of sync with the final recording ….

I know nothing of opera but that one with Denver is good, then agin,
Denver is one of my favourites.
