What Are You Listening To? - Fretup - 10-01-2010 Listenin' to SOAD's 'Toxicity'. What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 10-01-2010 from my library ![]() The 4th album weighted pretty evenly with some real good and some real bad stuff for me. The last one with Bernie Leadon. Probably wishes he'd have stuck around for awhile. Track on here of I Wish You Peace was co-written by him and Ronald Reagan's daughter Patti Davis. His association with someone who had a connection to the awful republicans actually led to political tensions within the band, even though Patti regularly dissed Ron at the time. The title track was a #1 but I never cared for it that much, hearing the disco feel, and that Bee Gees falsetto at the end was so annoying. Always preferred the mellower stuff with these guys. Randy Meisner got a rare lead vocal on my favorite track here of Take It To The Limit hitting #4. Getting four 3 star ratings I thought this would have rated higher, but the 1 ratings drug it down. It hit #1 in the states, with Lyin' Eyes making #2. Unbelievable there is no clips for most of these. I LIKE THIS ALBUM Worst Track - Journey Of The Sorcerer Best Track - Take It To The Limit All alone at the end of the of the evening And the bright lights have faded to blue I was thinking 'bout a woman who might have Loved me and I never knew You know I've always been a dreamer (spent my life running 'round) And it's so hard to change (can't seem to settle down) But the dreams I've seen lately Keep on turning out and burning out And turning out the same So put me on a highway And show me a sign And take it to the limit one more time You can spend all your time making money You can spend all your love making time If it all fell to pieces tomorrow Would you still be mine? And when you're looking for your freedom (nobody seems to care) And you can't find the door (can't find it anywhere) When there's nothing to believe in Still you're coming back, you're running back You're coming back for more So put me on a highway And show me a sign And take it to the limit one more time Take it to the limit Take it to the limit Take it to the limit one more time 1) One Of These Nights - ** - audio YouTube - Eagles- One of These Nights 2) Too Many Hands - * 3) Hollywood Waltz - *** 4) Journey Of The Sorcerer - * YouTube - The Eagles-Journey of the Sorcerer ( Long Version) 5) Lyin' Eyes - *** - live YouTube - The Eagles-Lyin` Eyes (live) 6) Take It To The Limit - *** 7) Visions - * 8) After The Thrill Is Gone - *** 9) I Wish You Peace - ** 3's - 4 2's - 2 3's - 3 Rating - 2.1 What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 11-01-2010 from my library Sometimes I'll dig out an old album I haven't listened to in years and think, damn, that''s not as bad as I thought it was. This is the opposite. This is bad. This is worse than I thought it was. Maybe it's just because it's Cheap Trick and I was a big Cheap Trick fan. Not sure why it's so bad. No line up changes although bassist Jon Brant had replaced Tom Petersson 2 albums previous and left after this album with Petersson returning. Could that be a link to their decline? Doesn't seem likely as the writing team of Nielson/Zander remained here. Anyway if anyone is new to Cheap Trick, don't use this album as a starting point. Probably their worst effort. This is their 9th studio album reaching #86 on the U.S. charts with a single of It's Only Love reaching #89. I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM Worst Track - Man-U-Lip-U-Lator Best Track - Good Girls Go To Heaven (Bad Girls Go Everywhere) Some girls do some girls don't Don't mean type don't mean smoke Lay me down can't seem to sleep My mind's been thinkin' real deep (bridge 1) All my thoughts are runnin wild out of control-outta my mind (chorus) 'cause good girls go to heaven bad girls go everywhere If I had my choice of women I'd pick the ones that'd go anywhere All good girls they go to heaven All bad girls go everywhere they like Late at night when she comes out The lady moves prowls the town A perfect match of looks and charm Where she goes it's light and dark She's so hot I burn my tongue when I kiss her lips she turns me on Good girls go to heaven Bad girls go everywhere If I had my choice of women I'd pick the ones that'd go anywhere All good girls they go to heaven All bad girls go everywhere they like (solo) Made my choice made it well had my pick of heaven or Good girls go to heaven bad girls go everywhere If I had my choice of women I'd pick the ones that'd go anywhere All good girls they go to heaven all bad girls go everywhere they like Good girls they've got manners bad girls got what matters Good girls leave at home bad girls come with the singer Good girls go to heaven bad girls go everywhere that they like 1) It's Up To You - * - audio YouTube - Cheap Trick - It's Up To You 2) Rearview Mirror Romance - ** - audio YouTube - Cheap Trick - Rearview Mirror Romance 3) The Doctor - * 4) Are You Lonely Tonight - ** 5) Name Of The Game - * - audio YouTube - Cheap Trick - Name of the Game 6) Kiss Me Red - * - live YouTube - Cheap Trick - Kiss Me Red - 86 7) Take Me To The Top - * - audio YouTube - Cheap Trick - Take Me to the Top 8) Good Girls Go To Heaven (Bad Girls Go Everywhere) - ** - audio YouTube - Cheap Trick - Good Girls Go to Heaven 9) Man-u-lip-u-lator - * 10) It's Only Love - ** - live YouTube - Cheap Trick - It's Only Love - LIVE 1986 3's - 0 2's - 4 1's - 6 Rating - 1.4 What Are You Listening To? - Fretup - 11-01-2010 Listenin' to Switchfoot's 'Ammunition' What Are You Listening To? - gryphon - 11-01-2010 I was not really sure which category to put this into ! It r.eminds me somewhat of Vanity Fair but it has other overtones...........I have known about Euphoria for some thirty years................Back then I came across a deleted US single called "You must forget " which had a most distinctive picture cover............... The copy was a promotion copy which contained the same track on both sides.......I guessed that I had a relatively rare forgotten single . THe cover haunted me for a long time.............it is a composite picture of four faces superimposed on a real wedding photo I loved the maudlin song .................... Thirty years later while browsing in an independant CD shop in The Netherlands I found myself staring at that self same cover.....................I didn't buy the CD on that occasion but next time I was in town I did .. I found a wonderful lost classic ................and started to do some research.. The tracks have a west coast sound and feature a male and two female vocalists.. It turned out that the male is a well respected song writer Tom Pacheco and this was one of his first waxings....................He is still around and has had songs covered by quite a few major artists..........................Has anyone else ever heard of this guy or even this album ???????
What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 11-01-2010 ^^ no I have not What Are You Listening To? - gryphon - 11-01-2010 Hi Music Head I guessed that you would know about him or the band................
What Are You Listening To? - gryphon - 12-01-2010 Joe Meek was one of the UK's independent producers...He is reputed to have turned down The Beatles and a very young David Bowie............The main thing about Joe Meek was that he was a Maverick...........He pioneered many ideas in production including close mike techniques, acoustic screening for seperate instruments effects boxes compression ,speed variation and many more..................With Joe Meek, it important to realize that you are listening to a sound not individual artists ( Rather like Phil Spector!)..............Joe worked in the late 50s and early 60s...............in listening to his works you begin to realise that many modern music genres are much older than you think. The Joe Meek CDs are excellent listening and reflect his time period beautifully........add to this the story of his life and dramatic end make those tracks essential listening for any music buff..................
What Are You Listening To? - Fretup - 12-01-2010 Listenin' again to a cover song "Ain't No Love In The Heart Of The City"; a blues-rock genre and live at Hammersmith and IMHO,simply awesome:That's Whitesnake for you! What Are You Listening To? - WelcomeToMyWorld - 12-01-2010 Rehab - Bartender |
