1971: Kid Rock
US rapper, rocker, producer, writer...
early career was hip-hop orientated...I don't like that side of his music,
much preferring and loving his 'southern rock', rock ballad sounds...
his biggest hit was basically a cover of "sweet home Alabama" which was morphed
into his own "all summer long"...
pretty hard for me to pick an absolute favourite of Mr.Ritchie's but heres one I love:

Ryuichi Sakamoto was born on this day in 1952, in Tokyo, Japan.

Composer and pianist, and already an accomplished, trained, qualified musician and musicologist, when in 1977, he and two others formed the Yellow Magic Orchestra. YMO is credited with being highly influential in the spheres of techno and synthpop and various forms of electronica – one of the most quoted examples of that - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yqZxcLGYVUc.

Aside from YMO, Sakamoto has been prolific in his personal and collaborative capacity – he seems to have the ability to successfully meld different cultures and styles; he’s an activist, singer, actor and record producer and has also scored a number of film and documentary soundtracks. He has created some incredibly melodic, evocative and sensitive compositions and his playing is equally superb.

Such a huge body of work to choose from - here a just few familiar excerpts from soundtracks - in chronological order …

Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence – “Forbidden Colours” – live and solo – sure a whole lot of people are reliving this, thanks to the Bowie connection (who, incidentally, had nothing at all to do with the music) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LGs_vGt0MY8

The Last Emperor – the theme, live - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NckpZ_m8Aj4

Wuthering Heights – the theme - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1oUcmForp_E

Alexei and the Spring (documentary) – “Ending (Piano Version)” - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i7RcJ-A_YKA

From Babel. “Bibo No Aozora” (Beauty of a Blue Sky) which first appears on his 1995 album, Smoochy and is used twice in the Babel soundtrack. This is in the first half of the movie, the 1996 version which segues into Gustavo Santaolalla’s “Endless Flight” – a thing of great beauty!

(… and the very sombre and more discordant (towards the end, and with purpose, I would imagine) second time, sans Santaolalla, as the ending theme - the 2004 version with Jacques Morelenbaum – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SsKlf_x9zRE)

Crispian Mills was born on this day in 1973, in London, England. He’s the son of actress, Hayley Mills and grew up casually hobnobbing with some of the biggest acting names in showbiz. He has another name - Krishna Kantha das, which he acquired when he was initiated in the Gaudiya Vaishnavism tradition while travelling in India.

He founded the band Kula Shaker – they released their bestselling debut album K, in 1996 -

Name all the K’s on the album artwork, anyone?

Probably their first single ....

LOL....

when I saw this post in the "whats new?" thread I thought...
"if MH hasn't posted 'coat of many colours' im coming to give you a stern talking to", I needn't have worried.

its by far her best track IMO...
I wasn't old enough to know who she was when she was in her prime, first thing I heard of her was "nine to five", hated it
when it was in the charts.
everything prior to that was top notch, the 1970s were good to her as she was to it but when the 1980s hit, her music sucked!
