What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 14-11-2013 i love that Horse song...great stuff. What Are You Listening To? - SteveO - 14-11-2013 A really nice soft ballad!!! ,,is Runaway Horse! What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 15-11-2013 ![]() THE OUTLAWS "outlaws" vinyl, 1975 album chart action: #13 US. singles chart action: "there goes another love song"....#34 US. debut album by this so-called 'southern rock' band from Tampa,Florida...me, i just think theyre a country-rock band... Christ im not even sure what 'southern rock' exactly is...is it a rock band that comes from the south,if so, that would make REM 'southern rock'????... anyway, these guys had been around since the late 1960s, took until 1975 to release a studio album and i see on wiki that they actually released an album last year, that would be their twelfth album according to that site...wiki also says that these guys have had 42 former members on their books with only two of the original members still in the group... most of this album isnt too bad IMO, even the instrumental "waterhole" is pretty good to my ears... theres nothing special on this album, its just okay...theres a few really nice songs on here, and only a couple i do not like... all up, it passes the grade, but there is not enough interest for me to buy anything on cd... I LIKE THIS ALBUM worst track: green grass and high tides best track: stay with me tracks: 1. there goes another love song * http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0qv3Bf0i9QE audio 2. song for you ** 3. song in the breeze ** 4. it follows from your heart ** 5. cry no more ** 6. waterhole ** 7. stay with me ** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YMfLuIw-pKI audio 8. keep prayin' ** 9. knoxville girl ** 10.green grass and high tides * 3s=0 2s=8 1s=2 rating: 1.8 What Are You Listening To? - SteveO - 15-11-2013 Liked your clip! Very good southern rock!...sort of reminds me of The Allman Brothers! What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 26-11-2013 ![]() Artist Recording History studio albums - 76 compilation albums - 48 singles - 96 from my library (cd) ![]() ![]() I have 2 compilation cd's by Merle. Here's the story. After purchasing the first one shown above I could not be fooled. Well, I was fooled by buying it, but not fooled into thinking it was original recordings. I did not find out until now, and reading the allmusic review what was up with it. Turns out that 13 of the 16 tracks are re-recordings of the original hits, done in 1994, well past Merle's prime. The voice is missing the clarity. Can't put that crap over on these well trained ears. Needless to say I was not satisfied with it and purchased the other cd later. It is more complete, with 26 tracks, and they sound like they are supposed to. Of those 26, 11 are duplicated between the two discs, meaning there are only 5 tracks from that first one that I care to have. Strange that 2 of those, Swinging Doors and I'm A Lonesome Fugitive, were 2 of his biggest hits, and not on the later release. The allmusic scores below reflect my feelings of the disparity between the albums. There oughta be a law. Not listing the 31 tracks and only a clip of my fav. I LOVE THIS ALBUM Worst Track - Runaway Mama Best Track - Sing Me Back Home 3's - 16 2's - 13 1's - 2 grade - 2.5 of 3.0 allmusic - 1.2 of 3.0 allmusic - 3.0 of 3.0 What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 10-12-2013 cant understand how i missed this post MH as im a big Haggard fan and obviously knew it was coming up...stupid me i guess! yes, re-recording songs and packaging them sucks!!! i have a Style Council 'best of' set where they re-recorded them around 1988ish and put them on their only official best of set...i felt ripped off! also, i have a Chuck Berry vinyl best of set somewhere...that was all re-recordings from the 1970s(i found that out later also!)... i used to have a Neil Diamond best of set somewhere, but when i boughtit and played it, they were all live recordings, and nothing stated that on the packaging, i promptly took that one back for a refund ALL artists suck who do that and package them as 'greatest hits'..because theyre not! back to Merle...im pretty sure my best of set i posted a year or so ago scored around 2.5 also...only his latter tracks from the 1980s and 1990s let my one down in the scoring stakes! What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 10-12-2013 ![]() THE VERSES "seasons" cd, 2010 album chart stats: #13 AU. singles stats: "forever more".........#78 AU. "want everything".....#96 AU. "never knew"...........#47 AU. "let you (w)in".........#85 AU. "running away"........#54 AU. Aussie modern folk-pop group made up from members of Aussie rock band Killing Heidi... this is their one and only album release, theres nothing great on here, and only one i dont like... sort of a cross between Lady Antebellum's crossover country and the modern folky sounds of Mumfords... album is okay though, makes for better background listening than up-front headphones stuff... I LIKE THIS ALBUM worst track: settle down best track: teeth tracks: 1. still come around ** 2. want everything ** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mrRIelP8xq0 video 3. settle down * 4. never know ** 5. teeth ** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQRBuzgYB3E live 6. running away ** 7. let you (w)in ** 8. lonely man ** 9. midnight ** 10.the winter ** 11.waste of time ** 3s=0 2s=10 1s=1 rating: 1.9 What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 23-12-2013 ![]() NEIL YOUNG "silver and gold" 2000, #22 US, #10 UK, #35 AU FINALLY,Neil Young comes out of the stack! this album was my introduction to Neil Young, it was recommended to me by a member an old music forum, "music365", of which i was a member back around 98-00, until it closed down, from this one i went to his triple set "decade" which blew me away, then "harvest" and the rest is history. four of the tracks demo'd for this one ended up on the CSNY "looking foreward" album in the previous thread, the remaining ten tracks became this album on which Linda Ronstadt provides backing vocals. surprisingly, the album opens up with a 'positive' sounding country/folk track entitled "good to see you" followed by five other really good songs that are equally positive by nature...a rarity for NY IMO. the stand out track here is the reminiscing "buffalo springfield again" track in which NY looks back on the 'fonder times' of working with BS back in the 1960s, unfortunately, from track seven throught o the end the album dives completely into mind numbingly boring songs full of repeatition, its by no means a great Ny album but it did introduce me to his material other than the four of five tracks that radio play, and for that i am grateful i "saw the light". I LIKE THIS ALBUM tracks: 1. good to see you*** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ncdwBB9KIME audio 2. silver and gold** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K2WNs1FAPeA audio 3. daddy went a walkin*** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7znVQzOHKak live 4. buffalo springfield again*** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=57KhsEvCo7U live 5. the great divide** 6. horseshoe man** 7. red sun* 8. distant camera* 9. razor love* 10.without rings* 3s=3 2s=3 1s=4 rating: 1.9 What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 02-01-2014 Artist Recording History studio albums - 27` compilation albums - 7 singles - 52 from my library (cd) ![]() With 27 albums, this compilation just scratches the surface, but it works. Just misses the love mark though, which any compilation should make. If not for that terrible take of his biggest song, just not for him, Harper Valley P.T.A. Tom is a good ol' Kentucky boy, from down Loretta Lynns way. His music career began as a DJ at a local radio station. This would be the real use of the term, where you play records at a radio station, then it goes out over the airwaves for people to listen to. Never mind, you wouldn't understand. This compilation album covers Tom's peak years. The Harper Valley song came early in his career and Jeannie C. Riley took it to the top of the charts in 1968, winning both grammys and CMA awards. He never equaled that success on his own but had many #1's on the country side. Became a member of the Grand Ol Opry in 1971 and inducted into the Country Music Hall Of Fame in 2008.
