Just picked this up last year from the discount bin for $5. Her only holiday album, it was first released in 1979 with 10 tracks. I have a 2004
reissue that has 13 tracks. I waited 25 years for those 3 tracks, and 1 of them is the only thing I don't like on the album. Two love tracks
from the original 10. Only 5 tracks on here are of your traditional type christmas songs. Not sure if the rest are originals, but they were for
me. Would not have paid full price for this album, but $5 to hear a songbird now and then is not bad. Harmony vocals on that title track are
Dolly, Linda and Neil.

Yes...cool factoid regarding Dylan! A favorite of George and Paul ...they like his ukulele playing!!! I do also as well as his style! Very big in England!!!...thanks for the MD Share mate!Share!!!!
CRAZY-HORSE Wrote:
GEORGE FORMBY "the world of George Formby" vinyl, 1970
London,UK born George Formby was born in 1904,started acting around 1915,ended up making around twenty movies in his career),
he also performed in dancehalls(sort of a Vaudeville) type sound...
also has a cheeky Lonnie Donnegan feel and sound to his songs with Ukulele as his instrument of choice...
on this album is his self composed original version of Herman Hermit's "leanin' on a lamp post" hit(you sort of get the idea of what he sounds like now,i hope?!)...
apparently, according to Wkipedia, Formby also performed Dylan's "subterranean homesick blues" track in 1960 on BBC tv....a full five years prior to Dylan releasing it, now that means Dylan's is not the original version, and he did not write it neither...so God knows how Dylan got hold of it...so as Formby died in 1961, there can be no date discrepancies with who did this one first!
Formby's version of that song does not appear on this album...
album is full of little ditties like the Herman track, i guess you either like that stuff or you dont...
me, i think its okay, nothing special but interesting to hear once in a blue moon!

GEORGE JONES & JOHNNY PAYCHECK "double trouble" vinyl, 1980
a duets album...
im a big fan of Jones thank to Music Head...
i have two of Paycheck's albums...he's okay but thats about it IMO.
anyway, this was a covers album recorded over a period of two years...
the songs on here are sung and performed in a lighthearted jovial manner, i guess they had fun doing this, but it aint fun to listen to with only about half the tracks scraping into the like range...
some of this stuff should never be allowed to be recorded with a country flavour like "tutti frutti","maybellene" etc, that stuff is strictly rock and roll IMO
the best one on here sounds like a real country track, but ive never heard the original so i wouldnt know what its meant to sound like(ignorance is bliss sometimes LOL)...
all up, a dissapointing album, i expected a lot more from Jones on this occasion
I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM

Her 16th album and not a very good seller, even on the country side. She had not had even a gold record in 12 years. Made a comeback a couple
albums after this one. Very nice album even with the lack of originals, which there are only 2 of. Three love tracks of covers for me with the
Cohen masterpiece taking the top. Cohens is better though, more of a mexican feel. Emmylou does it justice, along with Lucinda Williams'
Crescent City and everybodys You Don't Know Me. Worst track for me is the Tony Joe White rocker. Which is where she headed after this album,
hooking up with Daniel Lanois (U2) for her next album. For this one we get some harmonies from Trisha Yearwood and Allison Krause. It stays
folk/country for the most part. The album made it to #34 here, on the country side, and singles of Thanks To You and High Powered Love didn't
even crack the top 40 country chart.
