STEPHEN KING "mr.mercedes"

a real thriller from King....
story revolves around retired detective Bill Hodges who is haunted about the one case he never solved....the mercedes killings,
when out of the blue he receives a letter from the killer taunting him....
he uses all of his unofficial recources and knowledge to track down the elusive Mr.Mercedes in this deadly game of cat and mouse...
just who is the hunter and who is the hunted?

without a doubt, Kings best work in decades,
no supernatural themes, no weird threads interwoven, just a straight up thriller that runs at breakneck speed from start to the thrilling conclusion
its the first in a trilogy of bookd about Detective Hodges...."finders keepers" is the second installment in the series, i'll start that one over the next couple of evenings
with the third book to be released later this year....

book reads more like a Patterson than a King....!

rating: 4/5

STEPHEN KING "finders keepers"

the second novel in the "bill hodges trilogy"....

Hodges, Holly and Jerome—our heroes from the first book in this trilogy—don’t even enter the picture until a third of the way through, and Jerome doesn’t really feature in the story until it nears its conclusion.

Instead we meet Morris and Pete—a terrifying villain and a young hero separated by four decades, but whose lives are destined to intersect because of their passion for the writings of John Rothstein.

The opening third of the book is Stephen King at his absolute best—just pure, powerful, storytelling, with scenes that span four decades from Rothstein’s murder in the 1970s to the economic downturn in the 2000s and the MR. MERCEDES attack.

With all the pieces in place, the final two-thirds of the book is pure thriller. There’s not a mystery for the reader to solve—you know full well who the bad guy is and what he is capable of—but King leaves you white-knuckled, hanging on to the edge of your seat as Pete desperately tries to save his family … and Hodges, Holly and Jerome desperately try to save Pete.

One other thing … there are some chilling scenes with Hodges and Brady—the psychopath from MR. MERCEDES—that are perhaps setting up a more King-esque horror finale for the final book in this trilogy.

rating: 4.5/5

looking foreward the the trilogy finale in 2016 entitled "end of watch",
infact, im looking foreward to this one more than any other King novel since "misery"

MH....
I think both you and Deb would love the "mr.Mercedes" and "finders keepers"....pure thriller,no filler and no supernatural crap!

next up: Stephen King "doctor sleep",
released in 2013 and is the sequel to The Shining....
Dani has just finished it and liked it, but she says its not anywhere near as good as "finders keepers"...
time will tell, but I need a week's break from "finders keepers" prior to starting it....

I'll keepit in mind bud
Haven't read any King in years
not because I stopped liking him
just moved on
Deb was a fan for much longer
I got burnt out on that Dark Tower stuff

What Are You Reading ? - CRAZY-HORSE - 12-09-2015

I never read the Dark Tower series...
If you read the above two don't forget Mr.Mercedes comes first

What Are You Reading ? - Jerome - 12-09-2015

Only novel of his I ever read was 'The Stand'. Like some of his movies but the more extreme horror stuff you can keep. Having said that the 'Shawshank Redemption' is without a doubt the best movie I have ever seen.

What Are You Reading ? - CRAZY-HORSE - 12-09-2015

most of his movies are "B" grade at best....

Shawshank Redemption is my favourite movie of all time also...Morgan Freeman does a superb job not only acting but the narrative also...Tim Robbins, his best acting performance is also in that movie.

Delores Clareborne (starring Kathy Bates)

Misery (starring Kathy Bates/James Caan)

both superb IMO,especially Misery.

The Mist(cant recall who stars in it)...is a good supernatural-cum-sci fi thriller with a twist at the end you don't see coming until it hits you in the face.

Stand By Me
was also good, great music soundtrack on that one also..

Green Mile (starring Tom Hanks) I bit supernatural, but a very good 'death row' movie, anything Hanks does is good.
