CRAZY-HORSE Wrote:Top notch bio of Cousins Ruby....
Never heard of him but I obviously know who Strawbs were in their heyday....

I rate the 'Hero & Heroine' album as the pinnacle of their work.

c'mon....you all knew i'd do this one, right?!

1935: Elvis Presley:
had he not died he would have turned 81 years old today....

"the king of rock and roll"....
111 charting singles between 1954-77.
70 studio albums over the same period...
27 movie soundtracks albums....
30 'eps'......
and dozens of compilations to his name...
inductee in the R+R Hof, Country HoF and The Gospel HoF...
received an award from RIAA in or around 2004 for worldwide album sales exceeding one billion copies sold...
and Lennon once said "before Elvis there was nothing"
he could sing pop, rock, ballads, gospel, country and score hits in each genre...
started life as an electrician before he walked into Sun Records in 1953 to record a song for his mum (my happiness), and the rest is history...

I could post probably around a hundred tracks to prove how good this guy was, but I wont bore you with them, instead
i'll just post one of my personal favourites...

^^Which leaves me with David Bowie who turns 69 today. Happy Birthday to the man of many, many incarnations! Today is also the release date of his 26[SUP]th[/SUP] studio album, Blackstar.

What is striking about Bowie is that he’s always stood alone - never really aligned himself with anyone – sure, he’s had associations, but he’s an expert chameleon, has never followed, and is ever the innovator. Of course, it’s reached the point where he can do exactly as he pleases, even when it’s kinda weird and freaky. Personally - while I did get The Next Day, I doubt I will bother with Blackstar.

THIS is the Bowie I know and love …

The Next Day grew on me so I bought it also...

Same as you though Ruby...I don't think I'll get Blackstar.
