The greatest British band of all time. Not me, BBC. The first two albums made them notable in the U.K., but it was this third release when the U.S. audience climbed aboard, including myself. Of course the follow up Night At The Opera was when they smashed the doors down. From here my fav of Killer Queen was a big hit on both sided of the Atlantic with the album reaching #12 in the U.S. The only thing I don't like on here is the leadoff of Brighton Rock which always sounded like the vocals were recorded at the wrong speed to me and I guess that's because Freddie takes on a female voice. That just grated on me. But when Killer Queen kicked in, I was hooked. We get to here a rare Roger Taylor vocal on Tenement Funster. I love the two ballad tracks where Freddie mellows out, except they are too short.

The groups most commercially successful album and a double to boot. For this sixth album it took four weeks to write and two months to record. Those were the days. I do not think it is their best work by far, but it is good. Reaching #4 in both the U.S. and the U.K. and spawning 4 singles of Turn To Stone, Sweet Talkin' Woman, Mr. Blue Sky and It's Over. All 4 went top 20 in the U.K. with only the first two reaching that status in the U.S., Turn to Stone charting the highest at #13. Jeff Lynne considers this album their best work along with A New World Record.
