What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 10-09-2012 ![]() STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN & DOUBLE TROUBLE "texas flood" cd,1983. Stevie's debut set came at a time, when commercially speaking, Blues Rock was at an all-time low on the charts...even Slow-Hand-Eric struggled to keep his audience around this period! now, im not a big fan of the blues but i think this is a very good album....lots of great blues riffs on here, and Stevie's vocals are true to the genre, several covers on here, track 3(larry davis), track 4(howlin' wolf),track 5(isley brothers) and track 7(buddy guy), the rest are self composed tracks,a couple of blues instrumentals on board here also...both of which i do like. its a shame Stevie had to die in a helicopter crash just seven years after his debut as he sure had one hell of a career ahead of him, and if any of the superb live youtube links are anything to go by, he put on one one heck of a performance live in concert! I LIKE THIS ALBUM worst track: lenny best track: pride and joy tracks: 1. love struck baby *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tde8nLvrE7U live 2. pride and joy *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NU0MF8pwktg live 3. texas flood *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-_ii2D9eNA live 4. tell me ** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TdVg8TRXuvY live 5. testify ** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=slMOiccITC4 live 6. rude mood ** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KCHVpDwMS2k live 7. mary had a little lamb ** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxvJic0LENY live 8. dirty pool ** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qDaGIw08YUo live 9. im cryin' ** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BKv-p1slJ28 audio 10.lenny ** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C0i031-zF7w live 3s=3 2s=7 1s=0 rating: 2.3 allmusic score 5/5 What Are You Listening To? - SteveO - 22-09-2012 On YouTube check out his 1983 concert from the El Mocombo in Toronto !!!!!! CRAZY-HORSE Wrote: What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 11-10-2012 from my library (vinyl) ![]() Not sure why I picked this one up. I must have wanted to hear what a flute being played inside a pyramid sounded like. That should have taken a few minutes at most. This is a double album. But I got through it one more time. The only instruments on this album are a flute and a piccolo. Wait, is the voice an instrument? There is no singing but plenty of Om like chants. Maybe that's what you do when you're inside a tomb. Tracks were recorded in different chambers of the pyramid making this chamber music. Paul Horn is a jazz flautist (I've never understtod that spelling either) with recordings going back to 1957. This is his 23rd album. Never heard of him before or after. He has worked with such greats as Duke Ellington, Tony Bennet and Nat King Cole. I guess the industry knows him. I did get this out of a cut out bin so it must have been a good deal. You can get an even better one. You can pick this album up for free at 28 Buck Trail, Lancaster Kentucky, USA. I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM Worst Track - all Best Track - none here's a sample of one of the great vocal performances I double dog dare ya http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0rkKCZeFWag Grade - 1.0 allmusic - 1.6 What Are You Listening To? - Jerome - 11-10-2012 'I did get this out of a cut out bin so it must have been a good deal. What Are You Listening To? - Jerome - 11-10-2012 Music Head Wrote:from my library (vinyl) Listen MH - I am the sort of nutball that would buy something like this. What on earth made you decide to pick this one??????? What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 11-10-2012 Jerome Wrote:Listen MH - I am the sort of nutball that would buy something like this. What on earth made you decide to pick this one???????I know I got it from the discount bin because one of the corners are cut off. Probably a 2.99 deal, and a double album. I'm sure the album cover got my attention. Ba k cover says where it was recorded. That would have peaked my interest. Very nice booklet that came with it also. Telling all about the pyramid. I'll just say the booklet was more interesting than the music for me. What Are You Listening To? - Jerome - 11-10-2012 Now there is somehting that bugs me about downloads - no information or creative artwork to go with the music. With the availibility of visual media (web sites etc.) you would have thought they would exploit this to the max. I miss gatefold sleeves! What Are You Listening To? - SteveO - 11-10-2012 and then there's Paul Horn inside the Taj Mahal ...no kiddin! What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 12-10-2012 There is no singing but plenty of Om like chants. Maybe that's what you do when you're inside a tomb. the answer is simple MH...you join a fundamentalist religious terrorist organisation and train to be suicide bombers LMAO...! NO!, i dont need hate mail over this comment...its meant to be taken as a joke, assuming you all have a sense of humour!!!!! What Are You Listening To? - Mrrusty1 - 14-10-2012 Jimmy Guiffre two kinds of blues .. from jimmy guiffre 3 1956 just so cool .. |
