Formed in 1971 after joining together as Linda Ronstadts band, these guys went on to become one of the greatest selling bands of the 70's, and even all time. Too bad they had to try and extend that into the 80's, but I won't go there. This fifth album produced two #1 singles, of the title track and new Kid In Town which propelled the album to #1, where it remained for 8 weeks. Life In The Fast Lane was also a single. Joe Walsh had joined the band replacing Randy Meisner. The album has a theme of the demise of society. Of course the album cured that and it is not happening anymore. Corporate greed seemed to be a center point and that stopped to. Aw, the power of music. My fav here of The Last Resort is one of the lesser known songs. To me it is the best song the Eagles ever did.

I LOVE THIS ALBUM

Worst Track - Try And Love Again

Best Track - The Last Resort

She came from Providence,
the one in Rhode Island
Where the old world shadows hang
heavy in the air
She packed her hopes and dreams
like a refugee
Just as her father came across the sea
She heard about a place people were smilin'
They spoke about the red man's way,
and how they loved the land
And they came from everywhere
to the Great Divide
Seeking a place to stand
or a place to hide

Down in the crowded bars,
out for a good time,
Can't wait to tell you all,
what it's like up there
And they called it paradise
I don't know why
Somebody laid the mountains low
while the town got high

Then the chilly winds blew down
Across the desert
through the canyons of the coast, to
the Malibu
Where the pretty people play,
hungry for power
to light their neon way
and give them things to do

Some rich men came and raped the land,
Nobody caught 'em
Put up a bunch of ugly boxes, and Jesus,
people bought 'em
And they called it paradise
The place to be
They watched the hazy sun, sinking in the sea

You can leave it all behind
and sail to Lahaina
just like the missionaries did, so many years ago
They even brought a neon sign: "Jesus is coming"
Brought the white man's burden down
Brought the white man's reign

Who will provide the grand design?
What is yours and what is mine?
'Cause there is no more new frontier
We have got to make it here

We satisfy our endless needs and
justify our bloody deeds,
in the name of destiny and the name of God

And you can see them there,
On Sunday morning
They stand up and sing about
what it's like up there
They call it paradise
I don't know why
You call someplace paradise,
kiss it goodbye

Hadn't listened to this album in years as with most of my albums. Didn't realize how bad it was. I guess I know where the talent was and it wasn't with remaing members Gouldman and Stewart. Godley and Creme had left the group to do other work as a team. This is the eighth album as 10cc, but nothing close to the peak years. Andrew Gold had joined the band for this album, but never was a big fan of his either. The album did not even touch the charts in the U.S. or U.K. Even Gouldman was very critical of this work, much after the fact, of course. Numerous tracks were released as singles with none charting. A sad effort.

I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM

Worst Track - Run Away

Best Track - Tomorrows World Today

I'll tell you something you oughta know
We came a long way from the radio
But what's wrong with that?
Baby's what's wrong with that?

Now we got microchips, sci fi flicks
We got tomorrow's world today

Now there's something that I gotta say
Do you remember only yesterday
We had Blue Suede Shoes
Yeh, and we had Howard Hughes

Now we got holograms, CB hams
We got tomorrow's world today

At a time when the world is changing
Faster than ever before
Don't lose sight of the human touch
'Cause we ain't seen nothing yet
Oh no, we ain't seen nothing yet, uh huh

Now the children of the future
May take a trip to Mars
They might meet the Space Invaders on their way
'Cause we ain't seen nothing yet
Oh no, we ain't seen nothing yet, uh huh

Wish I had a calculator when I was at school
I was a simple mathematical fool
But now all that's changed
Yeh, we got computer games

And we got transplants, sperm banks
And body scanners
All there to help us survive
So we should think we're lucky
We got tomorrow's world today
