DAVID BOWIE  "lodger"  cd/vinyl  1979

a revisit
his thirteenth studio album
third and final installment of the "berlin trilogy"
songs range in sound from world music, rock, post-punk sounds and remain strictly Bowie sounding
my favourite of the trilogy and certainly in my top-2 of his career
album rates 2.8 from me which means
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

fave highlights his vocal range perfectly:

RE: What Are You Listening To? - Ruby - 17-08-2025

Supertramp Retrospectacle - an anthology of their music spanning around 30 years. I had forgotten that Breakfast in America was such a good album, even although the cracks were beginning to show within the original group by that time - they recorded a lot of their parts separately with a lot less friction as a result.

The opener of BIA and the lead track on the second disc of Retrospectacle ...

T-REX  "electric warrior"

Spotify listen

an artist whom i have never heard a studio album by
i am familiar with the hits and think they were a great singles band.
some blues on here, acoustic tracks too but still has that glam-rock sound that i love
if i had to pick a fault it would be that the sound is same-same for the most part
it scores 2.0 for a first up listen which means
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

GEORGE HARRISON  "all things must pass" cd/vinyl  1970

a revisit
his third album, first post Beatles album
a triple vinyl set released in a box
a song co-written with Dylan, also a cover of Dylan's "if not for you"
first two LPs are decent, the third is basically a "jam" which is really not necessary IMO
a good album with lots of well crafted songs
album sold 20 million copies and is widely considered by experts to the best solo set by any of the Fab Four
me, i experts, dont subscribe to the same thoughts as those experts...
i think the first LP is very good, the second reasonably good and the third a waste (should have been labelled "bonus material")
album is full of acoustic guitars with a few rockers thrown in and that steel pedal slide guitar work is brilliant IMO
album would score 2.3 from me, but 2.6 without the third LP which means
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

lets go for this one on this occasion:

PRINCE and 3rdEyeGirl   "PlectrumElectrum"  2014

from Lynne's Prince vinyl collection

his 36th studio album,
rock and funk-rock is how i would describe it
his most guitar driven album from the ones ive heard
love everything about this album and could eventually rival "chaos and disorder" as my favourite of his
album ranks 2.5 after two listens which means
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

lead off single:

ELTON JOHN  "jump up"  vinyl 1982

lets do this the old way...

sixteenth studio album
two big hits off here, "blue eyes" and "empty garden", his Lennon tribute
still sounds just as disjointed as it ever was but has some really good tracks
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

favourite:

side 1:
1:  dear john  **
2:  spiteful child  *
3:  ball & chain  **
4:  legal boys  **
5:  i am your robot  *

side 2:
1:  empty garden (hey hey johnny)  ***

rating:  1.8

GENESIS  "the lamb lies down on broadway"

i was talking to my neighbour this morning and he was telling me he just received the 50th anniversary vinyl boxset of this album.
he also asked if i was familiar with it, to which i replied, im not familiar with the Gabriel years of Genesis.
he suggested i could listen to the album with him as he had just unboxed it.
so i did...
jeez!,
90 odd minutes was a long time.
i didnt really understand the concept of the album even when reading the insert information, which makes sense because Phil Collins was once asked by a music journo what it was about and he replied "ive got no idea, you best ask peter"
so the actual album:
i liked a decent amount of the songs but some of it i didnt care for.
there were three standout tracks for me (yes i know its meant to be heard in its entirety) so three sections/pieces stood out and all three were in the first half of the album.
the album is passable and would probably grow on me with more listens just as Gabriel's solo material has and does
album would score 2.0 as a first up listen which is pretty good for a first up listen and that means
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

standout sections:

Cuckoo Cocoon:  Cuckoo Cocoon (2025 Remaster)
In The Cage:  Genesis - In The Cage (Official Audio)

best for me though is this one:

he has now advised me to try "selling england by the pound" if i have time

NEIL YOUNG "comes a time"  cd/vinyl  1978

his nineth solo album
Crazy Horse appear on a couple of tracks but a lot of this could be called country i guess
Nicolette Larson and Linda Ronstadt sing backing vocals and Larson duets with Young on one track
interesting to note Larson recorded "lotta love" later that year
contains the big hits "four strong winds" and the title track
album rates 2.5 which means
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

the rocking bluesy duet between Young and Larson

[Image: 250px-Elton_John_-_Don%27t_Shoot_Me_I%27...Player.jpg]

ELTON JOHN  "dont shoot me im only the piano player" vinyl  1973

his sixth studio album
his first album release of two from 1973, the great "yellow brick road" came out in November
apart from "daniel" side one is very beige for my liking
side two is pretty average too the exceptions being "crocodlie rock" and the album closer "high flying bird" for me
nothing bad on here, just run of the mill Elton tracks for me, but probably because he set such high standards for himself
album still comes in at a very good 2.3 which means
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

lets go for this one on this occasion:

RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 06-10-2025

NEIL YOUNG & CRAZY HORSE  "rust never sleeps"  cd/vinyl 1979

a case of Uncle Neil "double dipping"...
most tracks are live with overdubs and editing to remove crowd applause but if you listen carefully you can still hear it occasionally.
then out comes "live rust", the same thing with the crowd interactions...
either way,
a great album, "welfare mothers" and "sedan delivery" are average tracks but the rest are sublime IMO
album scores 2.7 from me which means
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

a latter version but still great:
