ROGER TAYLOR  "fun in space"

from Lynne's vinyl collection
debut solo album from Queen's drummer
released in 1981 (between "the game" and "flash gordon")
recorded on and off between 1978 and 1981
Taylor plays all instruments himself and co produces the album.
solid rock sounds on here, think the vibe of "rock it (prime jive)" from The Game album
was so good the first time i listened to it that i had to flip the vinyl again to make sure
yup, an incredibly good album IMO.
love Taylor's noted credits on the back cover "PPS: 157 synthesizers" nod to the Queen "no synths" credit on the back of their albums.
anyway, i love around half of this album so a score of 2.4 means...
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

fave:  Roger Taylor - No Violins (Official Lyric Video)

A fave of my late father's. Hard to believe he is gone 40 years. He loved this whole album. Could never get enough of it.

ALAN PARSONS PROJECT  "eye in the sky"  cd,  1982

a revisit

really liked the second half of the album though
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

fave on this occasion:

INXS  "kick"  cd  1987

a revisit
never a big fan of the band
because i loved "listen like thieves" when i played it a couple of weeks ago i thought i would return here
six or seven pretty sizeable hits off this one, most were okay
album tracks were okay
better than i remembered it though which is always a good sign
and it does contain my favourite ever song of theirs
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

JOHNNY WINTER  "john dawson winter III"  cd, 1974

a revisit
his seventh of nineteen, i own four and a live album
Lynne was looking at some of my cds today and had never heard a Johnny Winter album so that is why he got an airing this evening in the car
the one i picked was my favourite of the four studio albums i own
Lynne actually remarked that he has a vocal tone similar to Gene Simmons which i had never picked up on, and yes, in places he sure does sound like The Demon.
excellent collection of rock/blues-rock and one i really enjoyed listening to again
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

BLACK KEYS  "el camino" cd 2011

a revisit
blues rock/rock duo from Akron Ohio
their seventh album of twelve, i own three
solid gritty rock on here with distorted crunching guitars
sounds quite Glam in places
the hits were "lonely man" and "gold on the ceiling" and they sum up the sound of the album perfectly
album ranks a decent 2.2 which means....
I LIKE THIS ALBUM

fav wasnt even released as a single:

NEIL YOUNG & CRAZY HORSE  "rust never sleeps"  cd/vinyl 1979

a revisit
after playing a couple of albums i didnt like over the last day or so i thought i would deliberately go for a "go to" album to balance up the ledger
and what better way than to go for Uncle Neil and now i have balanced that aural ledger perfectly
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

JET  "get born" cd/vinyl 2003

a revisit
Aussie rockers
debut album of three, i own all three
album is split into two distinct styles for the most part
the first half is solid rock, the second more subdued
first half is one of the best single sides of rock music ever IMO, pure modern/retro rock
the second half is slightly patchy for me on this occasion, its all good just not as great as i used to think it was
album used to rate around 2.7 from me, on this occasion it dips to 2.4 which is great and still means...
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

rock is always best when it is kept simple and this ticks the boxes IMO

TOM PETTY & THE HEARTBREAKERS  "into the great wide open" cd, 1991

a revisit
eighth Heartbreakers album, nineth overall for Petty of sixteen in total
i only have three or four plus a comp and a live box set so i wouldnt say im a big fan but im a fan
this one is produced by Jeff Lynne and has that distinct Traveling Wilburys sound
a solid album and rates a pretty good 2.3 which means
I LIKE THIS ALBUM
