What Are You Listening To? - mtthwibrahim - 22-07-2012 Right now, I'm digging "A Love Supreme". I remember, like, two years back, I thought this was the craziest thing ever. That was before I heard all the insane lo fi free jazz death metal I've familiarized myself with. It's still damn solid, but far from my favorite Coltrane (which is probably "Meditations") What Are You Listening To? - Mrrusty1 - 23-07-2012 yes i love free jazz and incidentally a good example is the album free jazz by ornett coleman mtthwibrahim Wrote:Right now, I'm digging "A Love Supreme". What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 24-07-2012 ![]() DINAH WASHINGTON & BROOK BENTON "two of us" cd,1960. got this as part of a 2cd pack, the other album is "what a difference a day makes" from 1959. always loved Dinah's voice but some of her songs are simply terrible...even her voice cant make me like them! this one, however, is recorded with another vocalist i love in Brook Benton...same thing with him also, great voice but a hell of alot of crappy songs IMO. this one does make the pass mark for me but only just...had i scored it solely on their vocals it would almost certainly get a near perfect score from me. a couple of hits off this one in "baby you got what it takes" and "rockin' good way"...but dont expect the rest of the album to be as upbeat and catchy as those two tracks...its more mellowed and sleepy sounding. had the Rockin' Good Way song had come up as by Shakin' Stevens & Bonnie Tyler it would have scored *** and not ** I LIKE THIS ALBUM wosrt track: there goes my heart best track: baby(you got what it takes) tracks: 1. there goes my heart * 2. call me ** 3. baby(you got what it takes) *** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=37cH9khXYdM audio 4. love walked in * 5. not one step behind ** 6. a rockin' good way(to mess around and fall in love) ** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RkTjhvB23W4 audio 7. someone to believe in ** 8. this i promise you * 9. i do ** 10.because of everything ** 11.again * 12.i believe ** 3s=1 2s=7 1s=4 rating: 1.7 (allmusic 1.8) Dinah's other album comes up over the next couple of days...! What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 25-07-2012 ![]() DINAH WASHINGTON "what a diff'rence a day makes" cd,1959. Dinah's seventeenth album in just nine years... whereas the one posted above has shades of pop and soul, this is strictly blues...some nice tunes on here, but nothing i love...which is unfortunate because she has a beautiful voice. apparently there are a lot blues standards on here, but im not really into the blues so i dont know the originals, one of which, Manhattan, i do not like, but blues guys rate it up there amongst the greatest in that genre, so who am i to say whats good or bad! all up, not a bad listen but i can take it or leave it! I LIKE THIS ALBUM worst track: manhattan best track: a sunday kind of love tracks: 1. i remember you * 2. i thought about you * 3. thats all there is to that ** 4. i wont cry anymore * 5. im thru with love ** 6. cry me a river ** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2SoavtdKQkg audio 7. what a diff'rence a day makes ** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=10pJTuXmtHs live 8. nothing in the world ** 9. manhattan * http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tj1-ylSfaZI audio 10.time after time ** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d68c7IsEeCs audio 11.its magic ** 12.a sunday kind of love ** http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iTGrFZCgLuU audio 13.it could happen to you ** 14.come on home ** 3s=0 2s=10 1s=4 rating: 1.7 What Are You Listening To? - SteveO - 25-07-2012 Right on CRazy!
