RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 07-02-2025 P!NK "try this" cd, 2003 a revisit another random P!nk pick because i enjoyed the other one her third a good rock album, yes, rock my least favourite of hers although there is nothing inherently wrong with the album it does lack spark i guess that comes from the fact that she was under pressure from her label at this time to buckle to their will she didnt buckle but it shows on the overall sound of the recording album still rates a decent 2.2 from me which is an excellent score for the weakest album in anyones discography IMO I LIKE THIS ALBUM fave: RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 16-02-2025 INXS "listen like thieves" vinyl 1985 my sister gave me her small vinyl collection a couple of years ago she has a lot of forgettable music in it, Skatt Bros, Leif Garrett, Bucks Fizz, Kids From Fame, you get the picture... anyway, she had this album also, i own "the swing" and "kick" and do not really like them always thought of them as a good singles' band and a good live act (when Hutchence was sober) but not much else so i thought i would give this a spin since MH played it a few days ago in his "my album collection" and gave it an "A" rating. plus the fact there is a lot of hype surrounding the 40th anniversary release with Giles Martin's new mix of it out later this year. four big hits on this one, all of which i love, six more tracks not far behind those four in quality and a dumbass instrumental.. a solid album that hits a peak immediately and does not really let up a surprisingly good album from a band i am not fond of, album rates 2.3 from me or a "B" on MH's latest rating scale I LIKE THIS ALBUM fave: RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 19-02-2025 NEIL YOUNG "freedom" cd, 1989 a revisit his nineteenth studio album (not counting Stills/Young, CSNY and Buffalo Springfield) its been a pleasure randomly pick some of his albums this year after having a Neil free Zone the last year and a half so, i put this on in the car and the acoustic version of "rockin in the free world" started and Lynne said "i cant stand his whiney voice" i guess you either love or loathe him for that reason alone, anyway, back to the record. a thoroughly enjoyable listen as i excepted it would be because i always loved this album and still do. love the way he effortlessly flits between, country, pre-grunge grunge, rock and acoustic tracks. easy on the ears for me (not Lynne LOL), i guess she will determine what gets put in the car later today... I LOVE THIS ALBUM blistering live version from SNL before they became all woke and political RE: What Are You Listening To? - JeromeD - 19-02-2025 This does not really fit in this category but then again it does not really fit in any category. Diana Krall's moving tribute to Neil Armstrong at his funeral service. Excellent choice of music. https://youtu.be/UITwhy5-Vas?si=WmWAK-r9l9WHByaq RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 24-02-2025 THE JAM "setting sons" cd/vinyl 1979 a revist their fourth of six, i obviously own them all played as a tribute to drummer Rick Buckler's death earlier in the week a solid rock album here album was supposed to be a concept album about three school friends who to war and how it changed them upon their return. however studio and contractual time restraints put an end to that, there are however half a dozen songs from that concept that did make the album. nothing bad on here and would rate pretty close to a love score ie: 2.2-2.3 I LIKE THIS ALBUM fav: such mature lyrics about life from a 20 year old. Closer than close You see yourself A mirrored image Of what you wanted to be As each day goes by A little more You can't remember What it was you wanted, anyway The fingers feel the lines They prod the space Your ageing face The face that once was so beautiful Is still there, but unrecognisable Private Hell Private Hell. The man that you once loved Is bald and fat And seldom in Working late as usual Your interest has waned You feel the strain The bed springs snap On the occasions he lies upon you Close your eyes and think of nothing but Private Hell Private Hell. Think of Emma Wonder what she's doing Her husband, Terry And your grandchildren Think of Edward Still at college You send him letters Which he doesn't acknowledge 'Cause he don't care They don't care 'Cause they're all going through their own Private Hell Private Hell. The morning slips away In a Valium haze And catalogues And numerous cups of coffee In the afternoon The weekly food Is put in bags As you float off down the High Street The shop windows reflect Play a nameless host To a closet ghost A picture of your fantasy A victim of your misery and Private Hell Private Hell. Think of Emma Wonder what she's doing Her husband, Terry And your grandchildren Think of Edward Still at college You send him letters Which he doesn't acknowledge 'Cause he don't care They don't care 'Cause they're all going through their own Private Hell Private Hell. Alone at 6 o'clock You drop a cup You see it smash Inside you crack You can't go on But you sweep it up Safe at last inside your Private Hell RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 25-02-2025 STEPHEN STILLS "stills" vinyl 1975 his fifth solo album picked up in a second hand vinyl store a couple of weeks ago and finally gave it a couple of spins not a bad album, obviously not in the same league as his debut solo album . nothing bad on it and a couple of tracks i love loved his cover of Neil Young's "new mama" and the one i will link album would rank 2.1 for me I LIKE THIS ALBUM fav: RE: What Are You Listening To? - JeromeD - 03-03-2025 Some of these tribute bands are becoming really, really good. Hell, they are even starting to LOOK like the original members. A fantastic take on 'Sara', which incidentally Stevie Nicks once claimed that the lyrics were inspired by doing ballet in a mirrored room, with a Russian teacher, while listening to Jean Michel Jarre's 'Oxygene'. (according to Wiki anyway). https://youtu.be/TeLC48nFc3Q?si=NB_mEPb5Mo-4UtKr I can listen to this song all day and never get tired of it. RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 09-03-2025 (15-10-2016, 04:28)Jerome Wrote: I never really got that album cover??? A nice picture but as a choice for an album cover? ^^ this was in reference to the cover of Paul McCartney's debut solo album titled "McCartney" so i have found the answer to a possible meaning behind the cover art Jerome... while it maybe not a definitive answer Jerome but one i found quite interesting and highly plausible with McCartney's cryptic nature: so the cover depicts cherries and a bowl, "life is a bowl of cherries" is a common phrase in the North of England meaning 'life is dandy', with the cherries spilled out and juice in the bowl it means that "the life has been squeezed out of them". i suspect this is how McCartney probably felt around that time with the implosion that was the break up of the Beatles with the negativity he received from the media at the time and looming legal processes between himself and the other three Beatles. RE: What Are You Listening To? - JeromeD - 09-03-2025 Thx for that Crazy. I never could figure it out. But maybe your description is correct. You have a far better understanding of his music than I do. Did McCartney have anything to say about the cover at all? Just a thought. RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 09-03-2025 as far as i am aware, no. |
