RE: What Are You Listening To? - Ruby - 10-08-2024 ^Thanks - I'll look out for that. RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 13-08-2024 KID ROCK "rock n roll jesus" cd 2007 a revisit his seventh southern/outlaw rock at its finest probably my favourite real rock album over the last twenty years magnificent stuff IMO I LOVE THIS ALBUM i challenge any sane person not to agree with his words here: RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 18-08-2024 BILLY IDOL "charmed life" cd 1990 from Lynne's cd collection... part of our 8hr drive to Albany, WA road trip music... Billy's fourth studio album, i own the two previous ones and a compilation... only knew one single from this one, "cradle of love" and that sums up the sound of this album... a decent album, much better than expected... I LIKE THIS ALBUM was actually impressed with his cover of this Doors' classic had never heard this album RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 19-08-2024 LIAM GALLAGHER JOHN SQUIRE "liam gallagher john squire" cd 2024 another birthday gift from Lynne... played on our trip down south this week... a collaboration between the former Oasis frontman, Gallagher, and founder of psych rock band Stone Roses, Squire... a solid rock/psychedelic rock/blues rock album with a terrible album cover... album would rate a decent 2.2 upon a first up 'road trip' listen I LIKE THIS ALBUM RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 28-08-2024 MANFRED MANN "as is" cd 1966 their third UK studio album... lead vocalist Paul Jones has left to pursue a solo career and in comes Mike D'Abo... mainly self penned originals but a couple of covers also.. like The Byrds, the Manfred's recorded numerous Bob Dylan songs and theres one on here love just about every track and like the ones i do not love which means that... I LOVE THIS ALBUM fave is their cover of this Zimmerman classic RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 31-08-2024 MANFRED MANN "mighty garvey!" cd 1968 their fifth and final UK release... a tongue in cheek parody of Sgt Peppers with the Mighty Garvey being a fictional band... psychedelic rock, baroque pop, jazzy overtones etc.... another solid album by the band... embracing most of the album as a clever work of artistry excellence.. these guys probably had another couple of albums in them but i guess it was time for Manfred to move on to other pastures musically... lots of multilayered vocals on here which could be compared to the vocals on Pet Sounds... lots of influences on here from Kinks, Spencer Davis Group aobviously Beatles and Beach Boys... album contains two of their best known hits: "ha ha said the clown" and a cover of the Dylan classic "the mighty quinn".. I LOVE THIS ALBUM oh the joys of getting older... RE: What Are You Listening To? - Ruby - 01-09-2024 Suddenly had a bee in my bonnet about Phillip Goodhand-Tait, of all things! His album I Think I'll Write a Song. Good ol' early 70's stuff, including half the personnel of Camel, before they became Camel. On the whole, not a bad listen with some tracks much more memorable than others. "Sliverwing", of course ... ... and I especially like the guitar duet at around the two minute mark on this one. B J Cole on pedal steel guitar - Andrew Latimer on the other ... RE: What Are You Listening To? - Ruby - 02-09-2024 SHAWN PHILLIPS - Rumplestiltskin's Resolve The mighty opener ... quite aside from the magnificence of Mr Phillips, his longtime keys man deserves a mention - J Peter Robinson. Wowzer. "Early Morning Hours" In the early morning hours, When the dew is on the flowers I can see The day is near And I can hear the church bells ringing I can hear the birds are singing Yes I hear And it is real And the splendor of the mountains Through the glittering, splashing fountains Are the thing that stop my breath And makes me weep And the times that I spent roaming Were a bright and shining omen O'er the sea Oh freedom be And here I am still smiling In the intricate asylum of society Well I got to be And the effluvium of excess It is hidden at the behest of mentality Of a low degree And though it seems unstoppable It is not yet improbable That the man can have his cake and eat it too And the times that he spent roaming Were a bright and shining omen O'er the sea Oh freedom be And I have fended off the dangers From the friends and from the strangers And the force is still inside me And you know it only serves to guide me Let me be Only a day goes by you're free Listen to me my friend you'll see Listen to me Listen to me my friend you'll see Listen to me And when the light it comes to guide me I will not bow down and hide me no siree, respectfully And it is better to be humble Than pontificate and bumble Through the spree Of the people tree And like the Martlett of the legend I am on my way to heaven If I do not touch the ground I'll make it home And the times that we'll be roaming Are a bright and shining omen O'er the sea, Oh Lord, Lord freedom be And I have fended off the dangers From the friends and from the strangers And the force is still inside me And you know it only serves to guide me Let me be Listen to me my friend you're free Listen to me my friend you'll see Listen to me" RE: What Are You Listening To? - JeromeD - 07-09-2024 I was reading Ruby's post about Shawn Phillips and his session man. I remembered the name 'Russ Kunkel' from one of Shawn's album covers. Russ was a session drummer on a couple of Shawn's albums so I was wondering what had happened to him. Looked him up on Wiki and was blown away by the number of people he had played drums for over the years. Check out his discography section - amazing https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russ_Kunkel RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 07-09-2024 ^^ that list is a "who's who", so many artists and so many different genres. obviously a very versatile guy! |
