#484 - Justin Timberlake - Cry Me A River - 2002

running recap for me - 3's=10, 2's=5, 1's=2
this one - *
from the album: Justified
Written by Timbaland, Scott Storch, Justin Timberlake
Produced by Timbaland
Chart action: #3 US, #2 UK, #2 Australia

the players:
it's a secret but Justin's on vocals

Had never heard this song. When it popped up I thought of the blues/jazz standard written in the 50's. Not even
close. I think JT is a very talented guy, just haven't heard any music I like. This one included. I do not own any
of his albums so I can't judge what I haven't heard. This song was the second single from his debut album. Written
about his failed relationship with Britney Spears (my respect just went down a notch). Lyrically, the song is about
"a brokenhearted man who refuses to look back". It earned Timberlake a Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal
Performance at the 46th Grammy Awards.

Lyrics

You were my sun
You were my earth
But you didn't know all the ways I loved you, no
So you took a chance
And made other plans
But I bet you didn't think that they would come crashing down, no

You don't have to say, what you did,
I already know, I found out from him
Now there's just no chance, for you and me, there'll never be
And don't it make you sad about it

You told me you loved me
Why did you leave me, all alone
Now you tell me you need me
When you call me, on the phone
Girl I refuse, you must have me confused
With some other guy
Your bridges were burned, and now it's your turn
To cry, cry me a river
Cry me a river-er
Cry me a river
Cry me a river-er, yea yea

I know that they say
That somethings are better left unsaid
It wasn't like you only talked to him and you know it
(Don't act like you don't know it)
All of these things people told me
Keep messing with my head
(Messing with my head)
You should've picked honesty
Then you may not have blown it
(Yea..)

You don't have to say, what you did,
(Don't have to say, what you did)
I already know, I found out from him
(I already know, uh)
Now there's just no chance, for you and me, there'll never be
(No chance, you and me)
And don't it make you sad about it

You told me you loved me
Why did you leave me, all alone
(All alone)
Now you tell me you need me
When you call me, on the phone
(When you call me on the phone)
Girl I refuse, you must have me confused
With some other guy
(I'm not like them baby)
Your bridges were burned, and now it's your turn
(It's your turn)
To cry, cry me a river
(Go on and just)
Cry me a river-er
(Go on and just)
Cry me a river
(Baby go on and just)
Cry me a river-er, yea yea

Oh
(Oh)
The damage is done
So I guess I be leaving
Oh
(Oh)
The damage is done
So I guess I be leaving
Oh
(Oh)
The damage is done
So I guess I be leaving
Oh
(Oh)
The damage is done
So I guess I be... leaving

You don't have to say, what you did,
(Don't have to say, what you did)
I already know, I found out from him
(I already know, uh)
Now there's just no chance, for you and me, there'll never be
(No chance, you and me)
And don't it make you sad about it

Cry me a river
(Go on and just)
Cry me a river-er
(Baby go on and just)
Cry me a river
(You can go on and just)
Cry me a river-er, yea yea

Cry me a river
(Baby go on and just)
Cry me a river-er
(Go on and just)
Cry me a river
(Cause I've already cried)
Cry me a river-er, yea yea
(Ain't gonna cry no more, yea-yea)

Cry me a river
Cry me a river, oh
Cry me a river, oh
Cry me a river, oh

Cry me a river, oh
(Cry me, cry me)
Cry me a river, oh
(Cry me, cry me)
Cry me a river, oh
(Cry me, cry me)
Cry me a river, oh
(Cry me, cry me)

Cry me a river, oh
(Cry me, cry me)
Cry me a river, oh
(Cry me, cry me)
Cry me a river
(Cry me, cry me)

#483 - Jefferson Airplane - White Rabbit - 1967

running recap for me - 3's=11, 2's=5, 1's=2
this one - ***
from the album: Surrealistic Pillow
Written by Grace Slick
Produced by Rick Jarrard
Chart action: #8 US, #94 UK

the players:
Grace Slick – vocals
Paul Kantner – guitars, vocals
Jorma Kaukonen – guitars, vocals
Marty Balin – vocals, guitars
Jack Casady – bass
Spencer Dryden – drums

Now we're smokin'. This could be the only song this band ever made and they would still be a legend to me. Feed your
head indeed, such memories. Surprised this even got airplay back then. Grace was still with The Great Society when
she wrote this. Not hard to tell what it's about and even the group was surprised that the song got by radio
censors. From the Airplane's second album and a classic it is.

Lyrics

One pill makes you larger
And one pill makes you small
And the ones that mother gives you
Don't do anything at all
Go ask Alice
When she's ten feet tall
And if you go chasing rabbits
And you know you're going to fall
Tell 'em a hookah smoking caterpillar
Has given you the call to
Call Alice
When she was just small

When the men on the chessboard
Get up and tell you where to go
And you've just had some kind of mushroom
And your mind is moving
low
Go ask Alice
I think she'll know

When logic and proportion
Have fallen sloppy dead
And the White Knight is talking backwards
And the Red Queen's "off with her head!"
Remember what the doormouse said;
"Feed YOUR HEAD...
Feed your head"

Me too! Me too! Justin Timberlake is a guilty pleasure of mine and I think I've mentioned before how much I love Surrealistic Pillow.

Looking Back At Some Classics - PennyLane - 25-10-2012

"White Rabbit" is probably one of my favorite songs of all time. I just bought Surrealistic Pillow not too long ago on vinyl ( think I posted about it on here) . I am surprised the song is not higher up.

#482 - Kelly Clarkson - Since U Been Gone - 2004

running recap for me - 3's=11, 2's=6, 1's=2
this one - **
from the album: Breakaway
Written by Dr. Luke, Max Martin
Produced by Dr.Luke, Max Martin
Chart action: #2 US, #3 Australia, #5 UK

the players:
Kelly Clarkson – vocals
the rest is your guess

Another one I had never heard. Didn't latch on to Kelly till her current album. Typical teen pop thing here. Second
single from her second album. Song was rejected by Pink. About the relief after a troubled relationship. Number 1
for 6 weeks and on the chart here for 46 weeks. Got Kelly a Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance as well as
a couple of MTV awards. I don't think it's all that, but it'll do.

Lyrics

Here's the thing we started out friends
It was cool but it was all pretend
Yeah yeah
Since U Been Gone

You dedicated you took the time
Wasn't long till I called you mine
Yeah Yeah
Since U Been Gone

And all you'd ever hear me say
Is how I pictured me with you
That's all you'd ever hear me say

But Since U Been Gone
I can breathe for the first time
I'm so moving on
Yeah, yeah
Thanks to you
Now I get
What I want
Since U Been Gone

How can I put it? You put me on
I even fell for that stupid love song
Yeah, yeah
Since U Been Gone

How come I'd never hear you say
I just wanna be with you
I guess you never felt that way

But Since U Been Gone
I can breathe for the first time
I'm so moving on
Yeah, yeah
Thanks to you
Now I get (I get) what I want
Since U Been Gone

You had your chance you blew it
Out of sight, out of mind
Shut your mouth I just can't take it
Again and again and again and again

Since U Been Gone
I can breathe for the first time
I'm so moving on
Yeah, yeah
Thanks to you (thanks to you)
Now I get, I get what I want
I can breathe for the first time
I'm so moving on
Yeah, yeah
Thanks to you (thanks to you)
Now I get (I get)
You should know (you should know)
That I get, I get what I want
Since U Been Gone
Since U Been Gone
Since U Been Gone
