What Are You Listening To? - Tiggi - 04-10-2011 ![]() Lent by Robbie after I liked their other CD. First collaboration, released in 1990. There's only one original song here - there are six contemporaryish covers, and three traditional tunes - but that's not unusual for Folk musicians. More gently Rocked-up Folk, that sounds a bit like 10 000 Maniacs. Good, but not as strong as the aforementioned Ragged Kingdom album. AllMusic 4+/5 stars. What Are You Listening To? - SteveO - 04-10-2011 I love her Ashore CD from this year !!!! Unique style and voice !!!! What Are You Listening To? - Tiggi - 04-10-2011 ^ Yes, she's a good singer, SteveO. I have one of her solo albums, but think I need to hear more. What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 05-10-2011 from my library (vinyl) ![]() Their first best of set, including the #4 pop hit Flowers On The Wall. That was their only song to score high on the pop charts, but the country hits kept coming. Highest charting on this set were Flowers and Do You Remember These, both #2 country hits. My favorite is The Class of '57 where the nostalgia reigns. A song about the groups graduating class and where are they now. The groups roots were in country gospel as Four Star Quartet and then the Kingsmen. The Kingsmen turned out to be already taken by some guys that had a minor hit called Louie Louie. Name was changed to the Statler Brothers. From Virginia the two brothers of Harold and Don Reid, plus Phil Balsley and Lew DeWitt. Lew was replaced by Jimmy Fortune after his ill health with Crohns Disease. Beginning in 1964 the group had an 8 year run as the opening act for the man in black. Numerous awards throughout the years, most after this compilation, but this includes some of their best work. I LOVE THIS ALBUM Worst Track - Susan When She Tried Best Track - The Class Of '57 Tommy's selling used cars, Nancy's fixing hair, Harvey runs a grocery store and Margaret doesn't care. Jerry drives a truck for Sears and Charlotte's on the make, And Paul sells life insurance and part time real estate. Helen is a hostess, Frank works at the mill, Janet teaches grade school and prob'ly always will. Bob works for the city and Jack's in lab research, And Peggy plays the organ at the Presbyterian Church. And the class of '57 had its dreams, Oh, we all thought we'd change the world with our great words and deeds. Or maybe we just thought the world would change to fit our needs, The class of '57 had its dreams. Betty runs a trailer park, Jan sells Tupperware, Randy's on an insane ward, Mary's on welfare. Charlie took a job with Ford, Joe took Freddie's wife, Charlotte took a millionaire, and Freddie took his life. John is big in cattle, Ray is deep in debt, Where Mavis finally wound up is anybody's bet. Linda married Sonny, Brenda married me, And the class of all of us is just a part of history. And the class of '57 had its dreams, But living life from day to day is never like it seems. Things get complicated when you get past eighteen, But the class of '57 had its dreams. Oh, the class of '57 had its dreams. 1) Bed Of Roses *** live - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gf-mT8bxtWM 2) Whatever Happened To Randolph Scott ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X7ymC7ipQWk 3) Do You Remember These *** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_5tkDOQ77wk 4) Carry Me Back ** 5) Flowers On The Wall *** live - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VKZjja37_sw 6) The Class Of '57 *** live - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RLr_C8QqPWg 7) I'll Go To My Grave Loving You *** live - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5mcqEkjURnM 8) Pictures ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RPDpOb01640 9) Thank You World *** live - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wOTHWeGzDpM 10) New York City ** audio - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PO6XpbaLkCU 11) Susan When She Tried ** live - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SPKLpWjBc2g 3's - 6 2's - 5 1's - 0 Grade - 2.5 so many albums, so little time What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 05-10-2011 pretty sure we played this one when i was there MH, but it was one of those i/we chose not to rate???...whether we played it or not, its still a great album What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 05-10-2011 CRAZY-HORSE Wrote:pretty sure we played this one when i was there MH, but it was one of those i/we chose not to rate???...whether we played it or not, its still a great albumthat was the cd that we played on the road in between gigs inspired our Nashville performance I think it was twice as many songs so covered a longer period than this one probably most of these were on it though What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 05-10-2011 Music Head Wrote:that was the cd that we played on the road in between gigs glad to see your memory is better than mine MH...oh thats right?, you were listening and i was getting us lost!!!! LOL What Are You Listening To? - TraceNspace - 07-10-2011 I guess this is my Laura Marling phase. I listen to her a lot. I like this first album better than the last (newest) album out right now. Hard to believe how young she was when she recorded this album, 17! My Manic and I http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AtpJzMdu89A What Are You Listening To? - mtthwibrahim - 13-10-2011 Dance of the Moon and the Sun-Natural Snow Buildings A 2005 French drone-folk-bient double album that clocks in at almost two hours. Shockingly etheral and beautiful. I seldom finish the album, not becasue it fails to hold my attention but rather because, as a teenager, I have alot more things to attend to than droney French folk music. When I do, though, it's truly a rewarding experience What Are You Listening To? - Jerome - 14-10-2011 Art Garfunkel - Everything Waits to be Noticed. Classy album - great songwriting. Highly recommended if you are a fan or want some easy listening. Not a bad track on the album. |
