jazzboCR Wrote:What a great share!.Camped up that classic and not-bad pychedelia. Being as you mentioned the terrif Roy Wood, how about one of their classic clips with him in it? A great job on an ABBA smash hit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cSgzPrgRFXc The fun they have with a later-Elvis rocker: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-E3nxHUwd-M
Remember them from these days--they're/ the Dr. is still in existence but a pale shadow of the past.

Roy Wood was pretty much their mentor...
I've seen the Waterloo clip previously and do own that one in my singles collection...
Thanks for the Elvis share...never seen that one...
Roy Wood still performs live under different guises...

THE ANGELS "we gotta get out of this place" B/W "i just wannt be with you" 1986

Aussie blues rock/hard rock outfit from the 70s/80s...
"A" side is a cover of the Animals classic, and my dad was a huge fan of Burden & Co....
"B" side is pretty good also, its a ballad which sounds almost Stones-esque IMO....
these guys influenced the likes of Guns n Roses,Nirvana,Pearl Jam,Soundgarden etc...
this one made it to #7 on the Aussie charts...
here's their wiki page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Angels_(Australian_band)

back to the 1960s we go this time with....

DEL SHANNON "so long baby" B/W "the answer to everything" 1961

i had no idea which was the "A" side and which was the "B" side to this single prior to wiki-ing Del for the post...
i like the official "A" side, but love the "B" side...
single made it to #10 in the UK, far higher than it did in the US and Asutralia
here's Del's Wiki page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Del_shannon

CILLA BLACK "youre my world" B/W "suffer now i must" 1964

i love this single, both sides of it infact...
"A" side must be one of the best singles from the 1960s...
i love her vocal tones and strengh of her voice on this song, awesome stuff IMO, and the "B"
side is just as good, infact i could imagine Mary Wells being able to blitz this song also...
the single made it to #1 on the UK charts

CHARLIE DORE "pilot of the airwaves" B/W "falling" 1979

i just discovered that Charlie was actually an English singer, always thought she was American...
just goes to show that you learn something everyday...
this is the only thing i know by her...
love the "A" side of this single, its sort of a pop-country crossover song...
"B" side is also country-pop,more in the style of Olivia Newton John than the "A" track
we were in Australia when my dad bought this one so Aussie chart position applies, it peaked at a lowly #28

CHARLIE DRAKE "mr.custer" B/W "glow worm" 1960

a british actor, comedian, writer and performer of novelty songs...
Drake actually co-wrote Bobby Darin's first hit "splish splash" if youre interested in trivia!
as previously stated, Drake performed novely songs,
"A" side is obviously about the infamous Cavalry leader with the same name...its entertaining slapstick stuff
i havent heard that one for years so i thought it was funny this time round, if i heard it again(which is usually the case with novelty tracks) i probably wouldnt like it much
"B" side...more slapstick stuff, but i dont like this one
the single peaked at #12 in the UK

.....no link available,sorry......

Here's "Glow Worm": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a38aG4lpsBE << I don't see it as a novelty song *, not if the Mills Brothers did a version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JBsu6qjirvE

* You didn't say it was; you were only talking about "Mr. Custer" which definitely was. Incidentally, Mr. Drake's career was cut short by a bad on-live-TV accident (a clip exists but I won't link it). And loving "Splish Splash" as I do: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S8F-Q6dPr0U << He's not listed as the writer but that's how things went in those days--stolen credit, having to give up credit to, say, a disc jockey just to get it played, etc.

JOHNNY BURNETTE "youre sixteen" B/W "i beg your pardon" 1960

i was never much of a fan of Johnny...i think three or four single "A" sides are about all i like from him...
this one?...i love it,fantastic early 1960s pop...hell, even Ringo covered it brilliantly a decade or so later....
"B" side, a nice ballad,i can imagine Elvis doing this one as a track in one of his better movies...
single peaked at #3 on the UK charts
