Born on this day ... - Ruby - 29-11-2015 John Mayall, OBE, turns 82 today. To be perfectly honest, I wasnât entirely sure that he was still with us! He is the crown prince of blues â British blues, at least. Not even going to try to paraphrase his career â so ⦠https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Mayall From The Turning Point, because itâs the only album of his that I own ⦠ Born on this day ... - Ruby - 30-11-2015 Roger Glover was born on this day in 1945, in Brecon, Wales. Bass guitarist for Deep Purple, Rainbow, and various other collaborations with Ian Gillan and a whole long list of other artists. Heâs also released a handful of solo albums, including If Life Was Easy which is an interesting listen indeed. From RGâs liner notes: âThis hodgepodge collection of songs reveals or obscures a range of emotions over a turbulent decade; separation, divorce, injustice, uncertainty, new love, escape, fatherhood, grand-fatherhood, emigration, touring and losing my mother are some of the extreme highs and lows during this storm-tossed period. All were written wherever I was living â on a MacPro with ProTools and a few instruments and gadgets â extra musicians were added in the studio as needed. By the way, I know that it should be If Life Were Easy â itâs a subtle irony.â This lovely song is not exactly what one might expect from Mr Glover, but the unexpected on this release is what is so refreshing; his daughter, Gillian, providing the lead vocal â https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xdGjz7CW7gE ... and then thereâs âWhen the Day is Doneâ which has Walther Gallay sounding like what I can only describe as a cross between Leonard Cohen and Mark Lanegan ⦠ Born on this day ... - CRAZY-HORSE - 01-12-2015 1944: Charlie Grima that would make him 71.... drums/percussion with UK Glam Rock band Wizzard in the 1970s.... superb band led by the experimental genius that is Roy Wood who was the founder of ELO with Lynne/Bevan.... seeing as its almost Christmas and that time of the year is almost upon us I thought I would post their 1974 UK #1 smash festive hit, which incidently is in my top10 Christmas faves of all time... Born on this day ... - CRAZY-HORSE - 02-12-2015 1978: Nelly Furtado that makes her the ripe old age of....37! quite eclectic is Nelly... pop, hip-hop, dance, latin, pop ballads.... I have her debut album in the pile ready to play and post.... never got anything else by her because she went over the top with hip-hop/rap after that album... and no album since matched that debut for sales neither, here's her biggest hit, which incidently, is from her debut set "whoah!, nelly" Born on this day ... - CRAZY-HORSE - 02-12-2015 another "youngster" from music... 1991: Charlie Puth US singer/ songwriter, rose to fame with the very good "see you again" with Wiz Kalifa with the theme from the latest "fast and furious" movie... my fave by him so far is the duet he did with Meghan Trainor where they paid respects to Marvin Gaye with the song of the same name... releases his debut album early next year, and im extremely interested in hearing it! here's the one he did with young Meghan earlier this year.... Born on this day ... - Ruby - 02-12-2015 The fabulous Maria Callas was born on this day in 1923, in New York City. 'La Divina' was known for her fiery temperament, absolutely stunning and emotive performances, controversy in some circles over the quality of her voice and a very well publicized affair with Ari Onassis; no-one could ever have accused her of being boring. Sadly her career was over by the age of 40 and she died at 53, alone, in Paris. Her biography makes for fascinating reading. Her rendition of one of operaâs best loved arias â âO Mio Babino Caroâ, from Pucciniâs Gianni Schicchi - Born on this day ... - CRAZY-HORSE - 03-12-2015 1948: Ozzy Osbourne: that makes him 67, seriously, im surprised the guy made it through the 1970s let alone every decade that has followed it! vocals for Black Sabbath, I was never a fan... I have their debut album, half of it is bloody good, the rest, filler IMO... but hey, who am I to say whats what, they left their mark on hark rock/metal and the guy has personality to suit his persona.! this is my favourite off that debut set..... Born on this day ... - Ruby - 03-12-2015 Ralph McTell was born on this day in 1944, in London, England. From Allmusic â âAlthough he's best-known for his classic folk song staple "Streets of London," which first appeared on his Spiral Staircase album in 1969, Ralph McTell is a multi-dimensional guitarist and singer/songwriter who has influenced hundreds of folk singers in Great Britain, Europe, and the U.S. Fortunately, people in the U.S. and Europe are beginning to connect to his vast body of excellent original work, and not just "Streets," which has been recorded more than 200 times by artists as diverse as Bruce Springsteen, Aretha Franklin, and even the angry punk group Anti-Nowhere League, and is still McTellâs most requested song.â Born on this day ... - Music Head - 04-12-2015 Freddy Cannon - born on this day in 1940 in Massachusetts that would make him 75 #3 in 1962 Born on this day ... - Music Head - 05-12-2015 Little Richard - born on this day in 1932 in Georgia that would make him 83 his highest charting single here at #6 I would have guessed Good Golly Miss Molly |
