[quote=Ruby]It’s working perfectly MH! Don’t know why I didn’t figure that out before. Lol!
And as if that were not enough – we have the master of droll AND the master of innuendo all on the same page!
What more could a girl possibly want??[/

Lol, didn’t take that long actually, so I guess I must just have been being polite! Well - those days are over!!

Not really ... don't stress. All in good humour – no offence intended, or taken.

Tony Clarkin is the chief songwriter and guitarist for Magnum, an erstwhile prog-type band that quickly evolved into pretty much straightforward, no-holds-barred, downright, thumping rock, albeit of the more melodic persuasion! He hails from Birmingham, England, was born on this day in 1946, and is a poster boy for prolific. Jeez! Nineteen albums just for Magnum between 1978 and now, and he wrote the lot, lyrics and music, as well as being involved in other projects along the way.

They have a formula, I’d say, and they stick to it, which seems to work well for them; and then there’s Bob Catley whose vocals have been going at nothing less than full throttle for the past 40 years with no obvious signs of cracking up any time soon. They have also had Rodney Matthews designing a lot of their cover artwork which means a thread of continuity along a metal-infused fantasy theme on that score too – pun intended!

I enjoyed reading this interview with Mr Clarkin, lol! Quite amusing … https://www.teamrock.com/features/20...sing-and-death

“All the Dreamers” from 2013’s On the Thirteenth Day – great track, I think - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uehf5lDFZeQ

… and from their debut album, 1978’s Kingdom of Madness, which is critically acclaimed –

Steve Rothery was born on this day in Yorkshire, England. He is the longest standing continuous member of Marillion, and their lead guitarist. He’s also had a side project with vocalist Hannah Stobart that they called the The Wishing Tree, releasing two albums (neither of which appeal to me), and has made one solitary solo studio album – The Ghosts of Pripyat, which is nothing short of brilliant. I have raved about it before somewhere on here and I wonder if he has another one of those in him?! I’m sincerely hoping so.

He’s also recorded a live album along with his Steve Rothery Band, S.R.B. Live in Rome, which features a selection of Marillion numbers and most of the Pripyat tracks; this is one of them ….

1941: EDDIE RABBITT
that would make him 74!
US country crossover singer and songwriter...
writing hit singles for Ronnie Milsap, Crystal Gayle, Juice Newton and Elvis Presley amongst others...
his two most famous singles he wrote for others would probably be "every which way but loose" and the classic "Kentucky rain"..
now, ive seen Kentucky rain and it looks and feels the same as rain all over the world, so I don't know whats so special about it?
but the song sure is special, one of Presley's best for me personally.
can only ever recall hearing one song Rabbitt sung and that was his "i love a rainy night"...the guy must like rain I guess!
so heres that one which made him a "one hit wonder" in Australia and the UK...

Boris Grebenshchikov was born on this day in 1953 in Leningrad, Russia. He is known as the grandfather of Russian Rock – the founder of the band Aquarium (АквариумWink. From what I have heard, I’d peg them as primarily prog folk, but I’m not entirely sure there is any one suitable label.

Fascinating history and character! The band, comprising a succession of educated and accomplished individuals, played and recorded ‘underground’ (often literally) from 1972 well into the eighties, and BG, as he is also known, only really got a break into the Western market through Dave Stewart who produced his album, Radio Silence in 1989. This is a track from that album - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0NV1qwDu-bY.

Quite interesting to understand the challenges Akvarium faced in a severely restricted, prescriptive environment – they have a wiki page, as does BG - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boris_Grebenshchikov

BG has a degree in applied mathematics and his interests are wide ranging – he is a student of mysticism and religion, and a serious scholar, quite at home translating Buddhist and Hindu texts to Russian language. Musically, Bob Dylan is his idol, along with the other usual suspects, but his own musical style is eclectic. If I can find it, I’d like to listen to Navigator, an instrumental album, and Lilith which he recorded with The Band after a chance meeting. Yes, THAT band.

Depending on who’s translating, this track could be “Northern Colour”, or “Northern Flower”! It’s from an album which is titled Sister Chaos and I really don’t mind that I can’t understand a single word he is singing ...
