RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 26-07-2022 ROGER McGUINN "roger mcguinn and band" cd, 1975 his third... solid rock and roll on this one, excellent, excellent album, even better than the previous one... I LOVE THIS ALBUM fave: love this calypso/Caribbean tinged one also.... RE: What Are You Listening To? - JeromeD - 27-07-2022 Today's pick - https://youtu.be/vZAkqukvfSE RE: What Are You Listening To? - JeromeD - 27-07-2022 Another one for today - https://youtu.be/Eorv2KWLs7M RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 30-07-2022 BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN "human touch" cd, 1992 his nineth and a revisit for me... was never overly impressed with this album or its companion piece "lucky town" and after today's listen im still not... theres still at least half of this that i genuinely do not like either because of the lack of melody or the forced nature of the songs. others however, are genuinely pleasant and i still feel that one solid album could have been made out of both of these albums. I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM 1. human touch *** 2. soul driver ** 3. 57 channels (and nothin' on) ** 4. cross my heart ** 5. gloria's eyes ** 6. with every wish ** 7. roll of the dice ** 8. real world * 9. all or nothing at all * 10. man's job * 11. i wish i were blind * 12. the long goodbye * 13. real man * 14. pony boy * 3s - 1 2s - 6 1s - 7 rating: 1.6 fave: RE: What Are You Listening To? - JeromeD - 30-07-2022 Today's pick - https://youtu.be/ceYZT7aFdXY RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 31-07-2022 ^^ Snow Patrol are a great band IMO RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 01-08-2022 ROGER McGUINN "cardiff rose" cd, 1976. his fourth... some psychedelic-rock, some classic rock, some folk, a sea shanty (or two) and a hint of country... produced by Mick Ronson (who also played guitars on it). one written by Kris, another by Joni and a Dylan penned tune amongst a lot of self-penned ones... better than his third which in return is better than his second, both of those i love... I LOVE THIS ALBUM the Dylan penned tune: c'mon, its Dylan, who doesnt like to read what he pens.... Everythin' went from bad to worse, Money never changed a thing, Death kept followin', trackin' us down, At least I heard your bluebird sing. Now somebody's got to show their hand, Time is an enemy, I know you're long gone, I guess it must be up to me. If I'd thought about it I never would've done it, I guess I would've let it slide, If I'd lived my life By what others were thinkin', The heart inside me would've died. I was just too stubborn To ever be governed By enforced insanity, Someone had to reach For the risin' star, I guess it was up to me. Oh, the Union Central is pullin' out And the orchids are in bloom, I've only got me One good shirt left And it smells of stale perfume. In fourteen months I've only smiled once And I didn't do it consciously, Somebody's got to find your trail, I guess it must be up to me. It was like a revelation When you betrayed me with your touch, I'd just about convinced myself That nothin' had changed that much. The old Rounder in the iron mask Slipped me the master key, Somebody had to unlock your heart, He said it was up to me. Well, I watched you slowly disappear Down into the officers' club, I would've followed you in the door But I didn't have a ticket stub. So I waited all night 'Til the break of day, Hopin' one of us could get free, When the dawn came over the river bridge, I knew it was up to me. Oh, the only decent thing I did When I worked as a postal clerk Was to haul your picture down off the wall Near the cage where I used to work. Was I a fool or not To try to protect your identity? You looked a little Burned out, my friend, I thought it might be up to me. Well, I met somebody face to face And I had to remove my hat, She's everything I need and love But I can't be swayed by that. It frightens me, The awful truth of How sweet life can be, But she ain't a-gonna make me move, I guess it must be up to me. We heard the Sermon on the Mount And I knew it was too complex, It didn't amount to anything more Than what the broken glass reflects. When you bite off more Than you can chew You pay the penalty, Somebody's got to tell the tale, I guess it must be up to me. Well, Dupree came in pimpin' tonight To the Thunderbird Cafe, Crystal wanted to talk to him, I had to look the other way. Well, I just can't rest Without you, love, I need your company, But you ain't a-gonna cross the line, I guess it must be up to me. There's a note left in the bottle, You can give it to Estelle, She's the one You been wond'rin' about, But there's really Nothin' much to tell. We both heard voices for a while, Now the rest is history, Somebody's got to cry some tears, I guess it must be up to me. So go on, boys, and play your hands, Life is a pantomime, The ringleaders From the county seat Say you don't have all that much time. And the girl with me Behind the shades, She ain't my property, One of us has got to hit the road, I guess it must be up to me. And if we never meet again, Baby, remember me, How my lone guitar Played sweet for you That old-time melody. And the harmonica around my neck, I blew it for you, free, No one else could play that tune, You know it was up to me. RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 02-08-2022 ROBERT FRIPP "exposure" 1979 i do not own this or anything by any band he may have been in... thought i would give him a listen over the last couple of weeks, and this, his first solo album is the one i chose... really impressed with his guitar work on David Bowie's "heroes", "lodger" and "scary monsters" and this was recorded around the same era so i thought i would check him out... solid album, some hints of the sounds on Bowie's 'berlin trilogy', some new wave, post punk also... Darryl Hall and Pete Gabriel supply most of the lead vocal duties on here, and i am fine with that... I LOVE THIS ALBUM love the John Lennon vibe on this one sung by Darryl Hall RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 03-08-2022 ![]() ROGER McGUINN "thunderbyrd" cd, 1977 his fifth, my fifth also (but final for me)... album heads off in another direction yet again, this time it leans towards southern rock, country rock etc, the type Tom Petty does and it is not a coincidence then that McGuinn covers "american girl" neither... that one sums up the whole feel and groove of the album... another great album from McGuinn, probably not as great as the last couple in the ratings but... I LOVE THIS ALBUM lets go for the Dylan penned tune again: Smoky autumn night, Stars up in the sky, I see the sailin' boats Across the bay go by. Eucalyptus trees hang above the street And then I turn my head, For you're approachin' me. Moonlight on the water, Fisherman's daughter, Floatin' in to my room With a golden loom. First we wash our feet Near the immortal shrine And then our shadows meet And then we drink the wine. I see the hungry clouds up above your face And then the tears roll down, What a bitter taste. And then you drift away On a summer's day where The wildflowers bloom With your golden loom. I walk across the bridge In the dismal light Where all the cars are stripped Between the gates of night. I see the trembling lion With the lotus flower tail And then I kiss your lips As I lift your veil. But you're gone and then All I seem to recall Is the smell of perfume And your golden loom. RE: What Are You Listening To? - JeromeD - 03-08-2022 Today's pick - one of my favourite Waterboys tracks - https://youtu.be/xmyPHfu9c0c |
