this one - ***
from the album: Burnin'
Written by Bob Marley, Peter Tosh
Produced by Chris Blackwell
Chart action: did not chart

the players:
Peter Tosh – guitar, vocals, keyboards
Bob Marley – guitar, vocals
Bunny Wailer – percussion, vocals
Aston "Family Man" Barrett – bass, guitar
Carlton "Carlie" Barrett – drums
Earl Lindo – keyboards

About the only reggae I can take much of is Marley or Tosh, the co-writers of this song. The rest are just copycats. Marley wrote the song while
touring Haiti, deeply moved by its poverty and the lives of Haitians. It was the last song Bob performed live, on his 1980 tour. It is from
Marleys fourth album, and the last one before Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer left for their own solo careers.

Lyrics

Get up, stand up: stand up for your rights!
Get up, stand up: stand up for your rights!
Get up, stand up: stand up for your rights!
Get up, stand up: don't give up the fight!

Preacherman, don't tell me,
Heaven is under the earth.
I know you don't know
What life is really worth.
It's not all that glitters is gold;
'Alf the story has never been told:
So now you see the light, eh!
Stand up for your rights. Come on!

Get up, stand up: stand up for your rights!
Get up, stand up: don't give up the fight!
Get up, stand up: stand up for your rights!
Get up, stand up: don't give up the fight!

Most people think,
Great God will come from the skies,
Take away everything
And make everybody feel high.
But if you know what life is worth,
You will look for yours on earth:
And now you see the light,
You stand up for your rights. Jah!

Get up, stand up! (Jah, Jah!)
Stand up for your rights! (Oh-hoo!)
Get up, stand up! (Get up, stand up!)
Don't give up the fight! (Life is your right!)
Get up, stand up! (So we can't give up the fight!)
Stand up for your rights! (Lord, Lord!)
Get up, stand up! (Keep on struggling on!)
Don't give up the fight! (Yeah!)

We sick an' tired of-a your ism-skism game -
Dyin' 'n' goin' to heaven in-a Jesus' name, Lord.
We know when we understand:
Almighty God is a living man.
You can fool some people sometimes,
But you can't fool all the people all the time.
So now we see the light (What you gonna do?),
We gonna stand up for our rights! (Yeah, yeah, yeah!)

So you better:
Get up, stand up! (In the morning! Git it up!)
Stand up for your rights! (Stand up for our rights!)
Get up, stand up!
Don't give up the fight! (Don't give it up, don't give it up!)
Get up, stand up! (Get up, stand up!)
Stand up for your rights! (Get up, stand up!)
Get up, stand up! ( ... )
Don't give up the fight! (Get up, stand up!)
Get up, stand up! ( ... )
Stand up for your rights!
Get up, stand up!
Don't give up the fight! [fadeout]

one of Marley's good songs!

Looking Back At Some Classics - CRAZY-HORSE - 03-03-2014

** for me, but not really a fan of Marley or reggae in general

#301 - Rolling Stones - Street Fighting Man - 1968

running recap for me - 3's=113, 2's=72, 1's=12
this one - **
from the album: Beggars Banquet
Written by Mick Jagger, Keith Richards
Produced by Jimmy Miller
Chart action: #48 US

the players:
Mick Jagger — vocals, percussion
Keith Richards — amplified acoustic guitars, bass guitar
Brian Jones — sitar, tamboura
Charlie Watts — drums
Dave Mason — shehnai, bass drum
Nicky Hopkins — piano

Was not into this one. Starts out just like Jumping Jack Flash. I like the tune, just never knew what Mick was on about here. Killing the King?
How will you ever get knighted mate? Considered the Stones most political song, it was written after Mick had attended a protest rally at the US
embassy in London in 1968. Jagger now says he doesn't like the song. It was the first single released in the US for Beggars Banquet but failed
to reach the top 40. That may be the resut of many stations not playing the song. It's release was around the time of the DNC protests in 1968
and the lyrics were considered a little subversive.

Lyrics

Ev'rywhere I hear the sound of marching, charging feet, boy
Cause summer's here and the time is right for fighting in the street, boy
But what can a poor boy do
Except to sing for a rock 'n' roll band
Cause in sleepy London town
There's just no place for a street fighting man
No

Hey! Think the time is right for a palace revolution
But where I live the game to play is compromise solution
Well, then what can a poor boy do
Except to sing for a rock 'n' roll band
'Cause in sleepy London town
There's no place for a street fighting man
No

Hey! Said my name is called disturbance
I'll shout and scream, I'll kill the king, I'll rail at all his servants
Well, what can a poor boy do
Except to sing for a rock 'n' roll band
Cause in sleepy London town
There's no place for a street fighting man
No

from the album: II
Written by Jimmy Page, Robert Plant
Produced by Jimmy Page
Chart action: non-single

the players:
Robert Plant - vocals
Jimmy Page - guitars
John Paul Jones - bass guitar
John Bonham - drums

Haven't heard any Zep in awhile. This one works. Most do. This is worth a love for the Gollum reference
alone. Jimmy Page says after reading Tolkien, he was inspired to move to the country. During the groups
second US tour, time out was taken to record this classic in NYC. The song was seldom played in the groups
concerts. I see where Train released it as a single in 2001. Didn't go anywhere, but it got the band a
major label deal.

Lyrics

Leaves are falling all around, It's time I was on my way.
Thanks to you, I'm much obliged for such a pleasant stay.
But now it's time for me to go. The autumn moon lights my way.
For now I smell the rain, and with it pain, and it's headed my way.
Sometimes I grow so tired, but I know I've got one thing I got to do...

Ramble On, And now's the time, the time is now, to sing my song.
I'm goin' 'round the world, I got to find my girl, on my way.
I've been this way ten years to the day, Ramble On,
Gotta find the queen of all my dreams.

Got no time to for spreadin' roots, The time has come to be gone.
And to' our health we drank a thousand times, it's time to Ramble On.

Ramble On, And now's the time, the time is now, to sing my song.
I'm goin' 'round the world, I got to find my girl, on my way.
I've been this way ten years to the day, Ramble On,
Gotta find the queen of all my dreams.

Mine's a tale that can't be told, my freedom I hold dear.
How years ago in days of old, when magic filled the air.
T'was in the darkest depths of Mordor, I met a girl so fair.
But Gollum, and the evil one crept up and slipped away with her, her, her....yeah.

Ramble On, And now's the time, the time is now, to sing my song.
I'm goin' 'round the world, I got to find my girl, on my way.
I've been this way ten years to the day, Ramble On,
Gotta find the queen of all my dreams.

Gonna ramble on, sing my song. Gotta keep-a-searchin' for my baby...
Gonna work my way, round the world. I can't stop this feelin' in my heart
Gotta keep searchin' for my baby. I can't find my bluebird!
I always like listening to this song on road trips, or something similar. I think my personal view is that it should be higher up the list Big Grin

harvest is one of my favourite albums from Neil
Music Head Wrote:#303 - Neil Young - Heart Of Gold - 1972

running recap for me - 3's=112, 2's=71, 1's=12
this one - ***
from the album: Harvest
Written by Neil Young
Produced by Neil Young, Elliot Mazer
Chart action: #1 US, #1 Canada, #10 UK

the players:
Neil Young: Lead vocals, Acoustic guitar, Harmonica
James Taylor: Backing vocals
Linda Ronstadt: Backing Vocals.
Ben Keith: Pedal steel guitar
Tim Drummond: Bass
Kenny Buttrey: Drums
Teddy Irwin: Guitar

Neil's only #1 song in the US. He was in Nashville to appear on Johnny Cash's show when he decided to cut a collection of mellow tracks. After
suffering a slipped disc Neil had trouble standing and holding an electric guitar so he resorted to the acoustic where he could sit down and
play. We get the barely audible backup vocals of James Taylor and Linda Ronstadt. Doesn't stop me from loving it, but there's sure not much
there in the way of lyrics.

Lyrics

I want to live,
I want to give
I've been a miner
for a heart of gold.
It's these expressions
I never give
That keep me searching
for a heart of gold
And I'm getting old.
Keeps me searching
for a heart of gold
And I'm getting old.

I've been to Hollywood
I've been to Redwood
I crossed the ocean
for a heart of gold
I've been in my mind,
it's such a fine line
That keeps me searching
for a heart of gold
And I'm getting old.
Keeps me searching
for a heart of gold
And I'm getting old.

Keep me searching
for a heart of gold
You keep me searching
for a heart of gold
And I'm growing old.
I've been a miner
for a heart of gold.

#300 - Led Zeppelin - Black Dog - 1971

running recap for me - 3's=114, 2's=72, 1's=12
this one - ***
from the album: IV
Written by Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Paul Jones
Produced by Jimmy Page
Chart action: #15 US, #9 Australia, #11 Canada

the players:
John Bonham – drums
John Paul Jones – bass guitar, electric piano, mandolin, acoustic guitar on "The Battle of Evermore"
Jimmy Page – acoustic and electric guitar, mandolin
Robert Plant – lead and backing vocals, tambourine, harmonica on "When the Levee Breaks"
Sandy Denny – vocals on "The Battle of Evermore"
Ian Stewart – piano on "Rock and Roll"

Looks like this classic was not even released as a single in the UK. They got the title from a black dog roaming the studio grounds, but the
song is about sex. That's what Jimmy said.

Lyrics

Hey, hey, mama, said the way you move, gonna make you sweat, gonna make you groove.
Oh, oh, child, way you shake that thing, gonna make you burn, gonna make you sting.
Hey, hey, baby, when you walk that way, watch your honey drip, can't keep away.

Ah yeah, ah yeah, ah, ah, ah. Ah yeah, ah yeah, ah, ah, ah.
I gotta roll, can't stand still, got a flaming heart, can't get my fill
Eyes that shine burning red, dreams of you all through my head.
Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah.

Hey, baby, oh, baby, pretty baby, tell me that you'll do me now
Hey, baby, oh, baby, pretty baby, do me like you do me now
Didn't take too long 'fore I found out, what people mean by down and out.
Spent my money, took my car, started telling her friends she's gonna be a star.
I don't know but I been told, a big-legged woman ain't got no soul.

All I ask for when I pray, steady rollin' woman gonna come my way.
Need a woman gonna hold my hand, won't tell me no lies, make me a happy man.
Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah
