RE: What Are You Listening To? - JeromeD - 23-07-2021 What on earth possessed McCartney to go and record in Nigeria? And so soon after their civil war too. Nuts. RE: What Are You Listening To? - JeromeD - 23-07-2021 Rick Wakeman - Live at Hammersmith - superb live performance RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 23-07-2021 (23-07-2021, 02:12)JeromeD Wrote: What on earth possessed McCartney to go and record in Nigeria? And so soon after their civil war too. Nuts. he wanted to record somewhere other than Abbey Road Studios and was looking through the list of EMI studios around the world. Lagos was on the list and he thought it sounded 'exotic'.... when the band got there, the studio was a shell, no sound proofing, no glass, half the roof/ceilings werent installed etc, it was a constrution site... as i mentioned he was walking through the city at night with the 'master tapes' of the album and was robbed at knifepoint, the tapes were never recovered, McCartney says they were probably after cash in the briefcase and discarded the tapes not knowing what they were. RE: What Are You Listening To? - JeromeD - 01-08-2021 Forget all the crap on the charts - this is real songwriting and accompanied by masterful musicianship as well. Written by the drummer no less. https://youtu.be/b3bysb4T5mg And another from the same album - pure genius. https://youtu.be/G42-qaPxZK0 RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 01-08-2021 ^^ i vaguely remember reading somewhere that Yes may have some new material coming out shortly... RE: What Are You Listening To? - JeromeD - 01-08-2021 Thx for the head's up Crazy Man. I don't like everything they have done but Going For The One is one of my favourite albums. 3 brilliant tracks on the album and 2 crap ones. A real mixed bag. Will keep an eye out for the new one. RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 05-08-2021 ZZ TOP "rio grande mud" cd, 1972 i own five of their albums. their second of fifteen... always thought of them as more of a singles band than an albums band and htis is no different... very bluesy album for the most part, hints of what was to come later in their commercial '80s period... like some of this, dislike the rest... as i said, more of a singles band... I DO NOT LIKE THIS ALBUM favourite, which i love: RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 07-08-2021 DAVID BOWIE "hunky dory" cd, 1972 his fourth... wasnt a huge seller back in the day but things would change with the follow up album (Ziggy Stardust).... caught between typical Bowie sounds and straightforward pop on htis one... excellent album, one of his best, probably top 5 for me. I LOVE THIS ALBUM will go for something a little different this time round (written for his then young son).... RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 08-08-2021 DAVID BOWIE "lodger" vinyl.cd 1979 another revisit today this time my favourite album of his... thr third and final album in the so called "berlin trilogy" with Mr Eno... could almost be called "world music" in places... not one dud track on here and totally unlike any other album he made. perfection IMO I LOVE THIS ALBUM my favourite on this occasion: African night flight one-time Mormon More men fall in Hullabaloo men I slide to the nearest bar Undermine chairman, I went too far Bent on a windfall, rent a Sony Wonder how the dollar went down Got to get a word to Elizabeth's father Hey ho, he wished me well Seemed like another day I could fly Into the eye of God on high His burning eye will see me through One of these days, one of these days Got to get a word through one of these days His burning eye will see me through One of these days, one of these days Got to get a word through one of these days Asante habari habari ha Asante nabana nabana na Asante habari habari ha Asante nabana nabana na Asante habari habari ha Asante nabana nabana na Asante habari habari ha Asante nabana nabana na Getting in the mood for a Mombasa night flight Pushing my luck, going to fly like a mad thing Bare strip takeoff, skimming over Rhino Born in slumber, less than peace Struggle with a child, whose screaming, dreaming Drowned by the props all steely sunshine Sick of you, sick of me Lust for the free life, quashed and maimed Like a valuable loved one left unnamed Seems like another day I could fly Into the eye of God on high Seems like another day I could fly Into the eye of God on high Over the bushland, over the trees Wise like orangutan, that was me His burning eye will see me through One of these days, one of these days Got to get a word through one of these days His burning eye will see me through One of these days, one of these days Got to get a word through one of these days Asante habari habari ha Asante nabana nabana na Asante habari habari ha Asante nabana nabana na Asante habari habari ha Asante nabana nabana na Asante habari habari ha Asante nabana nabana na RE: What Are You Listening To? - Ruby - 09-08-2021 I’ve been listening to the radio more than anything else over the past little while, getting things organised – remind me never to move house again! Boxes are the bane of my life. Poor cat is traumatised by being confined to barracks and went on a hunger strike for days. Very stressful. Anyway - heard a song today that made me look up this local band – Watershed - I have one or two of their CD’s. No pretensions, just plain uncomplicated unapologetic rock. Quite satisfyingly unassuming - they have a formula and plenty of experience and there are probably loads of bands out there with a similar sound but the lead singer has a nice tone to his voice and knows his way around a key change or two, and their songs have a certain stickability IMHO. I hadn’t realised they’d released a new album this year. As a 'sounds like' - Craig Hinds (lead) sometimes reminds me of Colin Meloy of the Decemberists. This is what they say about the album cover - “We are puppets being controlled and guided through life in such a way that we don’t even realise it. Something feels wrong but we don’t know how to change it. The elephant is in the room but no one is talking about it...” The song I heard earlier …. “The River Song” - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=czLNWG78DRU The title track from Elephant in the Room … https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3j-uV4-mciM And the sort of reggae informed “Love Song” … |
