Looking Back At Some Classics - Music Head - 16-12-2013 #310 - Rolling Stones - Ruby Tuesday - 1967 running recap for me - 3's=109, 2's=69, 1's=10 this one - *** from the albums: Between The Buttons, Flowers Written by Mick Jagger, Keith Richards Produced by Andrew Loog Oldham Chart action: #1 US, #3 UK the players: Mick Jagger â lead and backing vocal, tambourine Keith Richards â guitar, backing vocal Brian Jones â recorder, piano, backing vocal Bill Wyman â bass Charlie Watts - drums ![]() Remember it being by favorite Stones tune ever when it came out. I have since regressed. Written about a Richards groupie who became his girlfriend. In his bio, Keith claims the said girl had left him for Jimi Hendrix, and he was trying to win her back. Jagger claims no credit in the writing. Brian Jones came up with the melody, but by then any Stones tunes were credited to Jagger/Richards. Didn't know this was released on 2 different studio albums in the US, Flowers and Between The Buttons. Any releases for the Beatles/Stones era back then were so strange with the track listing differences between here and there. Lyrics She would never say where she came from Yesterday don't matter when it's gone While the sun is bright Or in the darkest night No one knows She comes and goes Goodbye, Ruby Tuesday Who could hang a name on you? When you smile with every new day Still I'm gonna miss you... Don't question why she needs to be so free She'll tell you it's the only way to be She just can't be chained To a life where nothing's gained And nothing's lost At such a cost There's no time to lose, I heard her say Catch your dreams before they slip away Dying all the time Lose your dreams And you will lose your mind. Ain't life unkind? Goodbye, Ruby Tuesday Who could hang a name on you? When you smile with every new day Still I'm gonna miss you... Looking Back At Some Classics - SteveO - 17-12-2013 ^ Classic Stones! ..love it!!!! love Charlie's wicked drum roll in the middle before the chorus!!! Looking Back At Some Classics - Music Head - 04-01-2014 #309 - Willie Nelson - Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain - 1975 running recap for me - 3's=110, 2's=69, 1's=10 this one - *** from the albums: Red Headed Stranger Written by Fred Rose Produced by Willie Nelson Chart action: #21 US, #40 Australia, #57 Canada the players: Wille Nelson â guitar, vocal From his only great album for me. Written in 1945 and first recorded by Roy Acuff. Guessing it is Willies best selling single he ever recorded. Most of his success prior to this was as a songwriter. Other greats that recorded this prior to Willie were Hank Williams, Ferlin Husky, Conway Twitty, Bill Anderson, and lest we forget Slim Whitman, but it was Willie that made it known. Although it only made it to #21 on the overall chart, it was Willies first #1 country single as an artist and pushed the album there also. Lyrics In the twilight glow I see them Blue eyes cryin' in the rain When we kissed goodbye and parted I knew we'd never meet again Love is like a dyin' ember Only memories remain Through the ages I'll remember Blue eyes cryin' in the rain Some day when we meet up yonder We'll stroll hand in hand again In a land that knows no partin' Blue eyes cryin' in the rain Now my hair has turned to silver All my life I've loved in vain I can see her star in heaven Blue eyes crying in the rain Looking Back At Some Classics - CRAZY-HORSE - 05-01-2014 Ruby Tuesday *** willie nelson(as you'd expcet from me) gets *** also, as probably half his material prior to 1980 would get! Looking Back At Some Classics - SteveO - 05-01-2014 Blue Eyes Cryin by Willie ....classic song from a classic album!!!!! Looking Back At Some Classics - Music Head - 06-01-2014 #308 - Rod Stewart - Da Ya Think I'm Sexy - 1978 running recap for me - 3's=110, 2's=70, 1's=10 this one - ** from the albums: Blondes Have More Fun Written by Rod Stewart, Carmine Appice Produced by Tom Dowd Chart action: #1 US, #1 UK, #1 Australia, #1 Canada the players: Rod Stewart â vocal Carmine Appice - drums Philip Chen - bass Jim Cregan - guitar Gary Grainger - guitar Billy Peek - guitar At least it's grown to a like over the years. Probably hated it when it came out, and it would have been the disco beat. I hated anything disco back then. Still one of my least favorite Stewart singles. And what's up with that spelling? Always thought it was Do Ya, now I see it's Da Ya. Didn't know a lawsuit came out of this. Filed by Jorge Ben, a Brazilian artist with a song called Taj Mahl in 1976 where the hook melody in the chorus was lifted from he said. He won, but no worries, the royalties were given to UNICEF anyway. Live and learn. I included a link to that track after the Stewart insert. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h0_rQhtKGPA Lyrics Sugar, sugar She sits alone waiting for suggestions He's so nervous avoiding all the questions His lips are dry, her heart is gently pounding Don't you just know exactly what they're thinking If you want my body and you think I'm sexy come on sugar let me know. If you really need me just reach out and touch me come on honey tell me so Tell me so baby He's acting shy looking for an answer Come on honey let's spend the night together Now hold on a minute before we go much further Give me a dime so I can phone my mother They catch a cab to his high rise apartment At last he can tell her exactly what his heart meant If you want my body and you think I'm sexy come on honey tell me so If you really need me just reach out and touch me come on sugar let me know His heart's beating like a drum 'cos at last he's got this girl home Relax baby now we are alone They wake at dawn 'cos all the birds are singing Two total strangers but that ain't what they're thinking Outside it's cold, misty and it's raining They got each other neither one's complaining He say's I sorry but I'm out of milk and coffee Never mind sugar we can watch the early movie If you want my body and you think I'm sexy come on sugar let me know If you really need me just reach out and touch me come on honey tell me so If you really need me just reach out and touch me come on sugar let me know If you really, really, really, really need me just let me know Just reach out and touch me If you really want me just reach out and touch me come on sugar let me know If you really need me just reach out and touch me come on sugar let me know If you, if you, if you really need me just come on and tell me so Looking Back At Some Classics - CRAZY-HORSE - 06-01-2014 i clicked on the link...heard the blatant plagaristic bits, and at least you could hear them, not like some other famous ones! ** for me also, but i love the "blondes have more fun" album as a whole, "aint love a bitch" is the best thing on that album Looking Back At Some Classics - PennyLane - 07-01-2014 Eh. I would rank "Ruby Tuesday" higher than "Da Ya Think.." Actually, I wouldn't put the Stewart track on the list at all. I never found the draw. Rather kitschy and droll. Looking Back At Some Classics - SteveO - 07-01-2014 ^ The Rod track was a huge hit!!!! I did not buy it! Looking Back At Some Classics - PennyLane - 08-01-2014 SteveO Wrote:^ The Rod track was a huge hit!!!! I did not buy it! I like Rod Stweart, at time, but that track never did anything for me. I think "Maggie May" is a much better track. |
