RE: What Are You Listening To? - Jerome - 23-09-2020

Tonight it's Bruce Springsteen's 'The Ghost of Tom Joad'. Not his most popular album by a long shot but it is his artistic zenith in my opinion. This is bone-chilling songwriting. Emotions laid bare. Spectacular body of work that is highly underrated. I have a number of his albums but this is the only one I really listen to. I play 'Devils and Dust' from time to time but nothing comes close to this.

^^
it took me a long, long time to enjoy that album but when i did...

hey MH,
do you have that album or had you given up on him by then??
if you do have it, what did you think of it?

RE: What Are You Listening To? - Music Head - 24-09-2020

^^
never gave up on Bruce
actually Joad is the last one I bought
but I only quit because of the 7 year gap after it
just moved on I guess
love the album plus Nebraska

RE: What Are You Listening To? - CRAZY-HORSE - 24-09-2020

cool dude...
Nebraska would probably be my favourite of his.

in case you missed my post from last week, he has another album coming out next month,
not keen on the single but he certainly deserves the respect of listening because, well, he is The Boss.

Camel - Nude. My favourite in their repertoire. The musical interpretation of Hiroo Onoda who got stranded on a island in the Philippines during WWII for 29 years believing the war was still going on.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hiroo_Onoda

This track is about when he is first called up to serve in the military - 'Drafted'.

Love the opening to this track with the cello weaving in and out and then comes THAT guitar sound - and the ending is a repeat of the original guitar motif but just more effective. Superb work from Mr. Latimer and Co.

Play it LOUD - https://youtu.be/EFbwUEo1zyo

^Fantastic album.

I have continued with my APP listening so have Eve and The Turn of a Friendly Card  tucked under my belt this week. Of the two, the cautionary tale wins. The first time Eric Woolfson took lead on a couple of tracks. Also the first time I noticed that Kevin Godley and Lol Creme of 10cc were responsible for the artwork. Huh! Ian Bairnson may be criminally unsung - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jT0cKjDACIY.

Today - it was back to a perennial favourite - On the Threshold of a Dream - The Moody Blues ... the album of theirs I like most ... stands up well after 51 years!!

THE BEATLES "1"  cd,  2000

second selection from Dani's daughter...
well, she wanted a "singles" album not a studio album, so i chose this one of the three i own...
the band's biggest seller clocking in at close to 40 million sales.
27 tracks, all #1 hits in either UK or US.
I LOVE THIS ALBUM

Dani's daughter chose this as her favourite track:

my pick is this often overlooked gem from their arsenal.

Camel - Harbour of Tears. One of theirs that I seldom listen to but it has some great stuff going on. Got this on in the car at the moment. This album always struck me as being incomplete in some way or maybe disjointed. It does not have the 'completeness' (is that even a word?) that their other albums have. It has great pieces but they don't seem to go together????

Another good one, although TOMAI still beats it IMHO. Love the voice on this track ... "Some Other Time"  ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tW2e4tpOBGA

One of the most incredible intros to a prog album ever made.
